I can't do a search as I don't know what its called, I am refering to the 'Flap thingy' underneath the airbox, I was wondering if there are any performance gains by taking it out, I have an 83 Mondy Qv

Please ignore my dirty engine I am in the process of cleaning it for the first time in 7 years

Not possible to delete that component -- that "flap" is the K-Jet mechanical equivalent of the MAF sensor used on the later EFI cars. It deflects based on how much air is entering the engine, and the more it deflects, the more it deflects the plunger inside the fuel distributor which adds more fuel.

Do an internet search on "Volvo K-Jetronic" to get some good websites describing how K-Jet works (although on the Volvo they have an updraft arrangement; whereas, the Ferrari are the downdraft type).

Couldn't have said it better, except Volvo V-6s were down draft also.

It's very very necessary. That thingy is kinda like your butterfly of the carb, without it you car will not run. They are so sensitive just a little movement up or down will change the CO and fuel/air mixture and just barely move it side to side it will rub againts the housing and it can get stuck. Try not to touch it.

Nitrousferrari....no offense or disrespect but put the tools away, grab your beer and step away from the car. Seriously you worry me dude! Learning as you go is not a bad thing but maybe you.... well I hope you're just changing your air filter.

You are to be commended for asking the question first though.

    Good luck.

Calm down Blaine:), I am only removing things in the way so I can clean & polish everything, I'm no idiot when it comes to basic setup, I just did not know its purpose, I am now fitting one of Nicks Xdi igntions and was doing other things at the same time, its not like I ripped it out and asked 'Did I need this'
