Need some help from the geniuses. Parts are from my CIS 1980 308. I was the process of cleaning all the extraneous parts in the engine compartment and replacing the hoses. I know that the part on the left is the fast idle air valve, what does the part on the right do? Can I eliminate both parts?

    Thanks in advance,

The part on the right is the Auxillary Air Valve (AAV) -- it allows some extra air into the engine when cold (and it should not be eliminated IMO).

Looks like a supplementary air valve. You might have trouble getting it to start without it.

    Steve - 2NA,

Thanks for the info, I'll order new aluminum hoses from a non-cat equipped Ferrari and eliminate the fast idle air valve leaving the AAV circuit intact.

FWIW - With both circuits eliminated, the car starts fine but seems to be quite rich when cold- makes sense now.

One thing you might consider is to just block off one of the air hoses going to the cold start air valve with a short section of wooden dowel and then drill a small hole in the center that you enlarge until you get a reasonable cold start RPM -- that way it all looks "original" (but doesn't go to such a high cold RPM).
