Hi Guys, what would be the best sound for a 456GT? I am looking for something street compatible that wouldn't be to attractive for the police. Catalytic compatible of course. Thanks for your feedback.

Personally, I like the stock exhaust. Nice and quiet when you are idling through town, but sounds pretty good when you are pushing the car and are up around 5,000 RPM.

I had a Tubi on my car for a while-- it sounded great (but a bit too loud) at idle, but at highway speeds it was really annoying.

Depends on what you use the car for-- if you want to impress people at Starbucks, get a Tubi. If you want to drive the car long distances, stick with the stock exhaust.

Change the mid muffler for straight pipes.

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the center muffler with an X pipe from Stebro, leaving the original tail mufflers untouched.
I believe I have got the best bang for the buck, as the price is reasonable, the replacement work is straight forward (about one hour) and the effect is really good, in terms of sound as well as in HP.
At idle you know something is different, but it is not annoying, a droning noise I had before at medium speeds is now gone and when I drop the brick on the gas pedal there is wail coming from the back as the needle of the tacho shoots up.
I do not have data to back the seat of the pants feel, but it seems there is something more now.

I was looking to do the same thing to my 456. Did you do the swap yourself? If so, how difficult was it? Also, where did you purchase the x pipe?

I bought Stebro the X-pipe and exhaust set-up direct from Stebro on e-bay a couple weeks ago. Looking to install it next weekend, I 'll report back my thoughts and the sound. I do wish that the exhaust tips were more aggressive looking, they actually have a slightly smaller outside diameter than stock ones, but build quality looks good! Stebro has been very helpful and they are looking into any tip options for this.

The Stebro X pipe is a goos idea but I cannot find any reference on the Stebro website. I doubt it's the same as the 550 x pipe, any clue ?

i am scheduled to buy a 456mgt this week, and it has a tubi on now (stock exhaust is in storage). frankly i dont know if i like the sound of it. its nice and grouly but it doesnt seem to suit the car. and i am sure that the cops wont like it (swiss cops are overly noise sensitive). so i am probably going to have the stock one put back on and sell the tubi.....fwiw.

Hi, go on the Stebro website and e-mail them or call them.
The X pipe is not appearing in their list of products for some reason, but if you ask they will e-mail you a picture of what it looks like.
The guy you need to talk to is Dan Petschenig: very helpful.
Their claim in HP gain sounded too good (30 or so HP), so I kind of dismissed it and I do not recall for sure.
However after I installed the pipe I believe they may have been right, or at least that is the seat of the pants feel.
For the installation I went to a muffler shop as I do not have a lift in my garage and they replaced the old muffler with the new pipe in about one hour for $ 60 bucks !
I am not 100% sure, but I believe the exhaust system of the 456 and the 550 are identical, but just ask Dan about it.
Don't you all go speeding now....

There are two good reasons to prefer straight pipes over Xpipes:

    1) Straight pipes will give you 15 Bhp more than Xpipes, as Stephens has measured on a dyno with his 550.

    2) Straight pipes cost less then $100,- versus several thousands for an Xpipe.

Xpipes who are beneficial on US V8 engines, are disturbing the exhaust flow pattern on a V12 Ferrari engine.
The 575 has straight pipes as from the factory, where the 456 and 550 have a mid mufflers.

I have a brand new Stebro rear mufflers and x pipe system for sale. Bought it from my 456M but was given a another system by my mechanic so no need for the Stebro.

    PM if interested.

Where do you get the idea an X pipe costs several thousands of dollars?

If you prefer Xpipes, go ahead.
For the 550 you can buy them for a little bit more than $ 1000,- , for the 456 I have not found a supplier who offers this product, so you will probably have to let them specially fabricated for you.
But no matter what you do, it will always be more expensive then straight pipes.

What about the KOENIG-sports exhaust system?
All Koenig-sports exhausts can be delivered in a extra-loud racing-version without extra charge. I heard that Koenig make good specs to some Ferraris.

Here you can find other specs: http://koenig-specials.com/
