I wouldn't give Tubi much credit for sound on the F40. Tubi makes mufflers (or is best known for their mufflers), and for a non-turbocharged street car they're great. But for the F40, the best most natural raw sound is simple straight pipes, no muffler. As long as they're made out of stainless steel they'll all sound the same. Mine happen to be tubi but any good shop could make them just the same.

Really? I have read that the Tubi with the mufflers has a more "refined" sound?

I have no idea, but I have heard a Tubi with the mufflers, and it sounded great.

Yet to hear a Tubi LM, maybe at Cavallino!

Can I ask, on a cat car can you still do straight pipes with no muffler or is there no point and its just best to take out the cats too? Is there any adjustment that needs to be done to take into account the reduced backpressure?
    thanks

Thanks for that. My dream car.

Now I can go to bed and continue dreaming. Hopefully one day that sound will resonate from my garage early on a Sunday morning.

Mind you I will pre heat the car. Watched a link b4 where the gear changes were a bit suspect. The guy jumped straight into the car and gave it heaps before warming it. You could hear it was cold. The guy should have been shot. Mind you he was French, so to be expected. No respect for good quality race car.

Hi stradman, the easiest thing to do is just remove the muffler and replace with tubi LM pipes (of course keep all your original parts). That will produce very nice sound, not wicked loud sound, but still very nice, somewhat like the stradale, maybe a touch quieter due to the turbos. The car needs no other adjustments, and is easily reversable by yourself at any time in just a few hours.

Some folks complain that removing the cats results in a loss of low end torque, and that is true unless you change the cam timing a bit. That releases the full potential of the car, and sounds like the wrath of god (see the F40 & F50 fly bys tread from tonyh). Cam timing is essentially a major service, so you might want to schedule that when you need belts. The wastegate may need to be adjusted too. David Helms is the expert on F40s and can do all if this in his sleep.

The decision to make, is if you decide to remove cats, do you want to go with a Tubi muffler or LM pipes. The no cat/tubi muffler is more like the euro setup, and a very nice sound (loud but not scary loud at WOT). Fortunately the muffler is very easy to change so you can try it either way.

Personally I think the cats need to go.

    Dear Comrade Stradman,

My views about the Classiche Certification are vindicated.
