I took my 355 to an Indy shop to get a new clutch last year... Today I was picking it up from having some routine stuff done...as I was taking off the clutch chattered as always. Thinking it was a good time to address it we were talking about possible causes I said maybe it doesnt have enough grease. The guy that actually did the clutch replacement said what grease? Now I'm wondering, could they have replaced the clutch and resurfaced the flywheel without getting into the area where the grease is? What does the grease actually do? What is the normal cause of clutch chatter? (mine goes away after it warms up) I am thinking they did the flywheel and clutch without getting into the area that holds the grease...hope I'm right

Hmmm. I'm not sure what your shop would have meant by "did the flywheel" as that usually means repacking it with Kluber grease. You can pull/reinstall the flywheel without repacking it, but that isn't usually referred to as "doing the flywheel".

Here's info on a flywheel repack and you can see the grease is very evident once you open it up. Perhaps they didn't even touch the flywheel (don't necessarily have to when doing a clutch) but it tends to be S.O.P around here to do them both as long as you are in there.

the guy that did the clutch replacement had the flywheel resurfaced also..Can both of these be done without getting into the area where the grease is?

Ah, okay. Yeah, the grease is in the Voith dual-mass beneath the flywheel. So yeah, they can resurface the flywheel itself without a repack, but (you can search to be sure) I thought people had stated that repacks of Kluber were done to eliminate chatter.
