Hi Guys.. I took my car to a reputable indie shop in my area.. Loved his work.. my car had a semi-minor service such as oil change, gear oil change, spark plugs, spark plugs wire and brakes...

However, when I pulled out of the shop, my oil gauge suddenly was not working anymore... I was thinking that the connecter may have been accidentally unplugged or is loose. Do you guys know what areas I should look at ?

I think that the gauge itself is not busted as the needle moves a bit when turning the ignition on...

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated...

Oil temp gauge problems are usually caused by a bad ground to the dry sump oil tank. The sending unit is right there towards the bottom of the tank. First check to make sure it is plugged in. Then run a supplemental ground wire from one of the bolts on the bottom of the tank to a good spot on the frame, and your gauge should start working again. Enjoy!

My oil temp gauge has not worked since I bought my 348 last winter. I have looked at this and was worried that if I took out one of those bolts I would start loosing oil from the bolt hole. So I have yet to do it. If you remove one of those bolts will you begin to loose oil? If the answer is no I will do it right away.

The sensor as miltonian stated is on the bottom of the oil tank right next to the oil drain for the tank. most likely when they changed the oil the sensor wire was knocked off. Maybe it was loose already and they just finished the job.

If that is plugged in ok check the ground wire for the tank. it is also at the bottom of the tank inboard next to the alternator. this goes also for the 348.

a lot of time when the major is done, some forget to undo this connection and break the wire when the engine subframe is removed.

good luck and best regards, Jim

Thank you for the ideas... Now, since I'm a noobie... I assume that I have to lift the car and remove the bottom plastic liners to reach the bottom of the oil tank, right ? Is there any other easy way ?

If I were you, before I expended too much effort hunting around or troubleshooting, I would just swing by the shop and tell them that the gauge has not worked since you got the car back. When my 355 was last in to have the fluids changed and the radiators replaced, they neglected to reconnect the oil temp gauge.

Just lay under the rear bumper and look up. It is right there.

I have a F355. Is that the same as the 348 ? The one underneath the rear bumper is the gearbox, right ? The oil tank is on the right above the right rear well.
