Today when I was out running the car the slow down light illuminated and stayed on for most of the 20 miles.

My 328 has a Hyperflow bypass pipe with the thermocouple plugged in (no Cat) and, when checked with a Fluke IR gun, the temp of the bypass pipe wasn't even 300F.

My SD light pops on every once in a while. A couple of years back someone was working on a reverse-engineered slow down module but nothing ever came from it that I have found. Any update?

Hmm..no response in a couple of weeks. I guess it was the same thing that happened to Fabspeed's claim that they had a muffler coming out that would add 30HP to a 3x8. Well, except that a slowdown light reengineering thing IS possible. ;)

Having had my modules tested and found to be working, my belief is that most module problems are really thermocouple problems. kcabpilot, who is very familiar with airplane thermocouples, says they fail all the time. One of mine has failed.

We need a cross-reference for a cheap thermocouple replacement.

Yeah, the module replacement project seems to have stalled again. I am sure the problem is that it is a complex, unprofitable venture.

Try cleaning the thermocouple probe with a brass wire brush, and then using Deoxit on the connector to the module. It is very sensitive to resistance, that's what it is measuring, so even slight (invisible) surface oxidation can alter the readings. No one has created a cheap replacement thermocouple I am aware of, but it really should not cost much, given what it is.

In my case, the slow down light does not usually illuminate (self-check) when the ignition key is turned on. Once in a while it will. All module connections are OK so I'm assuming its the module itself that has failed. As i have said before, I'd reinstall a Cat if the module was working properly.
