    Excellent question.

If you run across a rust free 250 GTE (body only), I could be interested.

I'm afraid, Doug, that they go to the little 250GT/E, 330 GT body heaven up in the sky.

Unlike the US Marines, whose job it is to keep heaven stocked with fresh bodies (Full Metal Jacket reference),
it's Marcel's job to keep them here on earth.

    So, I guess what I'm saying is, if you see someone attempting to disembowel one of Enzo's creations- make 2 calls;
one to Pendleton (or Quantico) to take care of the perp, and...

one to Switzerland (or Oceanside- cheers Tom S) to affect the fcar rescue.

    :)

    Best,
    Dave

I got an e-mail from a guy with a 250 carcass last year:

"What I am selling is a nice body on uncut frame with good chrome, glass, and poor interior. No engine, no transmission, no differential, no front or rear suspension, no gauges. $10,000. USD. If interested, make arrangements for you or your agent to come and inspect the car. We do not send out pictures as they do not tell all."

Looks like Tom's car has more to it than the $10,000 car.

Legally speaking, if it has the frame with the serial number that matches the tag,...then it's a FERRARI.
But where are you ever going to find a proper V12 to avoid the sneers of disgust that comes with a Chevy 350 under the hood?

I expected this thread to produce some very disconcerting photos, but no, Tom saved the day. Nice colour too, even with a non-Ferrari engine it could make a nice daily driver until you find a proper unit to put in there.

I bought a 250GTE body shell in TX and shipped it to CA "just to have it around". After It began to get in my way I sold it. When the buyer came to pick it up, I asked him what he planned to do with it and he stated he makes desks out of car bodies. He showed me photos of several he had made (other makes) and was going to do this Ferrari body for himself. Like it or not, that was the fate of that totally stripped body. All in all, I wouldn't have minded having it for a desk!

    Use it to restore one

    http://www.dennigcars.org/1961_ferrari_250_gte__body.htm

Still many GTE's, Boanos and PFs in Italy are used to make replica SWB/GTOs/Testarossas, GTE shorten the chassis, et voila SWB size chassis. (well it is wrong model chassis anyway, swb is different)

As long as people commission coach builders/carrozzeria to create them, original ferraris will be slaugthered! (and they do not always use complete wrecks, but some are so bad that restoration is a waste of money and market prices for a good running car is much less than the cost of restoration)

    **** happens!

We need to be careful what we refer to as a "body". Some consider a "body" just that: ONLY the body sheet metal and NO frame. Others consider a "body" as a basically rolling car without an engine. A Ferrari "body" with no frame is not legally a Ferrari, or any car for that matter.

LOL! "This is an original body that has never been used since the day it left the factory in 1961."

Quote from the dennig advert. I knew Ferraris had some roughness from the factory in the old days, but......

I think that is the same body that was on ebay.it a few months back. It was then described IIRC as being removed from a car and restored.

It didn't meet reserve at $33000, that is a bit much for a fun project. Of course a high price protects the car from falling into the hands of someone like me.

This is what I've seen in a Maranello coachwork factory backyard, last year.
    A Maserati 3500 Gt , two 250 GTE and a 330 GT bodies without chassis .
So , as you can imagine , 4 new replicas or something like that.

    Ciao

    Andrea,

What a shame seeing those bodies out there to rust away. Do you know what they plan to do with them?
