That's the head that the studs are in... :/ Yeah, the previous major/belt job was done by a reputable shop in CA (Patrick Ottis Co), so I figured it would be pretty clean coming apart. Of course, they could have found it that way, too, though I'm surprised they didn't clean it up.

160 mile round trip to Murrietta to a friends home to swim in his resort style pool and hot tub and hang out in his huge tropical set back yard. Lunch and dinner as well. Nothing like driving a 328 home at dusk / night , on the 15 freeway on my way back to the south bay from Gods country.

    Thank you

I just finished a move. I had my ‘78 transported enclosed, and I coordinated for air conditioned storage until I arrived.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the damage done to the driver seat. Yes, I was not happy.

I removed the seat today for delivery to upholstery on Monday

(Side note: MONTWAY. Never again. They gladly accept your money but refuse to accept responsibility for anything.)

Installed rebuilt water pump due to seepage from bottom hole.
Replaced the coolant hoses in front and rear with Gates green stripe and the Gates hose clamps. Used in-lb torque screwdriver at 35 in-lb to tighten. Front 90 angled radiator hose is Gates also.
Pulling vacuum in the morning and if no leaks, then fill with Shell Rotella ELC NF via AirLift rig. After fill, will test with coolant system tester up to 15 psi for leaks.
    I know, my organized mess.
Setting belt tension per owner manual.

Vacuum test held 25 inches for 30 seconds and then I filled the coolant system. Had to vent the radiator for 20 seconds, added coolant to max line and vented thermostat until solid flow. Pressurized to 15 psi and no leaks! AIRLIFT is a great tool for refilling cooling system.
Re-assembled the 308 and took for a 45 minute drive, all temps good. Seal weep hole dry!!! To dinner we go tonight.

Woot! I put about 100 miles on mine today, first good drive since doing some cooling system repairs of my own. It seemed to be happy. First really amazing day here in Houston since spring, so... it was a great morning!

Direct quotes from Montway’s email response:

“We are very sorry to hear of the issue with your vehicle and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience....Unfortunately being that the interior is not a part of the inspection there is no way to validate the condition of the reported area prior to Yav Trucking having your vehicle in their possession...”

I immediately replied explaining that I had indeed taken pictures prior to pick-up. Naturally, I attached the photos.

Montway has yet to reply, and I doubt they ever will. Again, they gladly accept payments, but they refuse to accept responsibility for anything that went wrong.

It seems they also tacked on a non-factory / non-original fender shield to your car! ;)

Sorry you had such a bad experience. I just had a Porsche transported enclosed from Seattle. Montway was one of the bidders that kept pressuring me once I answered their internet ad. I didnt trust them as they are a broker and went with Plycar. Contacted them and had a great experience.

This was a huge lesson learned, and frankly, I’m embarrassed I made such a choice. Your mistrust was well placed. I truly am happy your Porsche was transported without incident; it’s such a nervous period to see your car disappear in an enclosed trailer.

Dove under the dash today to figure out why I have an intermittent starting issue. It turns out the wiring at the switch doesn't look anything like like factory. Apparently there used to be an alarm/kill switch on this thing, and there's extra relays and push buttons under there. So I unplugged and cleaned everything, and it seems fine now. But I'm clearly going to have to schedule some time to take the seats out and really figure out (and reverse!) whatever has been done.
