Out on a run this afternoon, I heard a shout of "back to the future" from a pedestrian :D

Today I removed the rear deck in preparation for resealing the cam covers. After 7 years the front cover began leaking oil once again. I'll check the hockey puck to cam clearances while in there as well as the drain back holes near the driven end of the cams.
I did first for me gearbox/transfer case and engine oil (and filter) changes yesterday. After checking and then checking multiple time to make sure I was doing things correctly, I finished at 2 a.m.. I then sat and stared with a self-congratulatory beer hoping to hell I didn't f--- it up. Took her out this a.m. No issues to include 2nd gear; like butter. Better to be lucky than good. I could NOT have done it without this site and all of you pro's who share your wisdom. Ranging from copper washers, filter, torque specifications, hex sizes, and a funnel I found at Walmart(!), those of you who post "how to do's" have made life much easier for my inexperience. The search function: Priceless. THANK YOU. Now, to continuing the deep clean of the undercarriage. 41-years of oil and grime doesn't go away easily....cheers. Well I finally had time today to tackle that wing mirror switch, plenty of cursing was coming from the garage A real pain in the ass, but it's working perfectly so all ends well. Had to break down two old padlocks so I could salvage some newer springs and use in my switch. The problem was easy to understand after the PCB was taken off, four out of six of the ball bearings were sitting low and stuck inside the plastic holder (see pic), because some of the springs had become too compressed and damaged so had to use some new ones in the end as they kept getting stuck again and again. A few pics below for reference to others it may help Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Discovered that the coolant recovery tank has a small leak in it after an early morning drive to a small car show. Small light hash Mark on the top surface....seems to be migrating under the powder coating. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Congratulations! Very cool. Glad it was a positive experience. Car maintenance work is mostly straightforward and all it takes is an analytical mind and a lot of patience. My rule is to estimate the time something will take and multiply by three. I bought my 308 with the explicit intention of maintaining it myself. I had wrenched enough on my E30 BMWs to show myself that I shouldn't fear any job but really hadn't done anything too big. On the 308 I've now changed my own timing belts, shifter shaft seals, gapped the valves and other major stuff. There is not much now that would intimidate me (... okay, the idea of pulling the heads terrifies me!).
I’ll take it off, strip it and see if I can locate the leak site. I’ll repair it if it is possible and recoat it.
Figured out why my shifter is jammed in 3rd gear (and fixed it). https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/shifter-jammed-in-3rd.607979/
On Saturday, Sept 28th, went to my uncle's (and godfather) 90th birthday lunch. Round trip 140 miles, including highway; played chase to Lamborghini Huracan for 10 miles. I even managed to get a speeding ticket from an automatic radar, it seems: not sure yet, but well, if that is confirmed, then my old girl will be proud... Yes, she is somewhere in that picture from the restaurant parking lot... Rgds Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fiat 131 Rally cars, I have a picture where they are at the front of the line and I am some distance back.. Lester ... and we get Chevy S10 pickups at our meets.
A few months back I checked, lubed and adjusted the power window cables in my 308. Made no difference to their snail like pace! Today I took a chance on a power window booster box (i.e. relays and new ground). I was dubious but pleasantly surprised - easy to install and picked up 1.8 sec on the down motion and 2.5 sec on the up motion. That makes the window speed almost like a 'normal' car Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lubing the cable helps the real issue is the dried out grease in the motor drive gears which slows the job down.
Not always. As I mentioned above i cleaned and lubed the cables first which made little difference. Likewise the motor bench tests fine with a full 12v. The issue for me was voltage drop - hence the box made a difference
More of what I've been doing the past couple of days. Before and after. Always a work in progress. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
