We have had many "discussions", some quite heated about preferred marque's. I am curious and maybe the true litmus test, is what if you could not buy a Ferrari today, what car would be your (next) choice? Best

I would get a Lamborghini Countach Quatrovalvole European downdraft model. Ferrari is the greatest automotive brand in the world. They have the greatest legacy, history and overall, they have produced the greatest cars. Having said that, being a kid from the 80's, the Coutach is my favorite car. The only reason why I never took the plunge and bought one is because it is a nightmare of a car to own. Things constantly go wrong with them (usually major things), it's next to impossible to find anyone really competent to work on it, and OEM parts are almost non-existent. For someone like me, who would want the car to be in concourse condition, I know I would end-up resenting it. HA.

Sorry I was thinking Ferrari has to develop a strategy that will keep them viable.
    , hence being available.

Back to your original question :)

If not for Ferrari, I'd save a bundle of money. There is no other car that I would spend 250-300k on. I'd probably go back to a used 911 for 80-100k. Possible an Aston Martin (although I never drove one). There is not other car that I am that passionate about. It's not about just spending on a Lambo or McLaren. Not to say they aren't beautiful cars. Just would never spend the money.

May be my error, trying to be unambiguous is challenging on the net. Thanks for input though. Best

If Ferrari never existed, Lamborghini would still be best known for tractors.

Couldn't of summed it up better! Would never spend north of $250K on any other car period!

The wife daily drives a 2012 PDK 911 Turbo, amazing car for the $ so I guess I would just steal her's if Ferrari was gone!

To answer the question, I would by a 2014/15 PDK Turbo with Carbon Brakes!

If it wasn't for the 458 Speciale, I would still have my Aston Martin V12 vantage.
I absolutely loved the sound, the torque, and theatre the V12 vantage provided.
It wasn't as fast as a 458 or Gallardo, but the build quality was very good and the amount of luxury for a 0 to 60 in 3.6 second car was bar none. The carbon brakes and steering for the V12 vantage was also exquisite.
Of course the 599 is significantly faster, but for a front mid engine V12 sports GT; the V12 vantage was still only half the price of the 599.
One added benefit of the AM was women absolutely loved that car!

I think the only thing that comes close is some of the Special Edition Lambos like the Superlagera and the LP670 other than that Pagani Zonda and the Sesto Elemento but that is a bit past my budget.... for now ;)

The Koenigsegg is in a bit of a different price bracket, that compares more to an F70, not really the regular Ferrari, like a 458.

To replace the 458, Ditto, but I would need to drive it first. I have never liked the PDK and would need to convince myself about it in this application. If not I would move back to a nice 997GT3 RS.

As for our FF there is simply no replacement.

    I had a 997 GT3RS and in my opinion, It is not a substitute for a 458.

Bob, you and I own similar cars. I think the only reason I own a Ferrari is that it is a Ferrari. I would probably just stick to some kind of Porsche or another. I currently own a 991TT and it's a great car.

I probably would not own a Lambo or McClaren. Great cars but they just don't hit me emotionaly.

I might go down the ladder price wise and have a Corvette of some kind just to have something different to drive.

Are you trying to figure out what your next car is? For me I am just going to sit tight for now.

There is no substitute. I'd just be driving my Land Cruiser full time.

From today's super cars...probably the McLaren. Lambos are not my cup of tea and the Aston's, while nice, seem less sporty somehow.

Since we both "participate" fairly often, know I spend about a millesecond "worrying" about anything on this forum and probably most things in general. I actually wanted to make sure "you" were ok. We can do this for awhile if you have nothing else to do (lol). Best

For the past few years I realize I truly have what I want with one caveat. Like all of us, I have my ideocyncracies and could not "relax" owning, say, a Bugatti (which I could afford). Where to drive and where to park it?

I came to this understanding when looking at a 4 door and was going to buy a Mercedes S63, but I also looked at others and found the Cadillac CTS-V. This car cost half as much as a S63 (whose counting), and with added hp, now 630hp, the suspension (which Ferrari got from GM) Recarro Seats and Brembo brakes, is the most comfortable speed demon for long hauls. When I have my Bentley GT and the Caddilac next to each other, I often take the Caddilac.

If Ferrari was not produced I would be the first to moan and like many be hard pressed to find a "replacement". I have probably made myself "known" by the fact that instead of ordering a Lamborghini or McLaren, I have ordered a Corvette Z06 coming next year. Not quite ready for a Smart Car. Best

Porsche is trying very hard to sell me a 918. Neat car but really doesn't hit me emotionally. I have always liked and owned when I could 911's. A Bugatti doesn't really interest me other than it interesting to look at.

I hope a Smart Car is not in my future. LOL

I am probably not going to put 2 mill or so in a car. My car habit is already bad.
