While procrastinating writing a paper for my master's course and surfing this forum, this idea passed through my head while reading many arguments about the quality of Massa, Hamilton, and Kimi in regards to actual talent vs. quality of car.

If all of the drivers in F1 are supposedly the "pinnacle" of open-wheel racers, then they should excel in any car, no matter the team (as many here have suggested). Instead of Max changing F1 to a spec-car series in 2010 as he is suggesting, why not leave the rules and reg's as they will be in 2009... Then to find the TRUE WDC and WCC, the drivers could be employed by the FIA, rather than the teams. The teams would be required to fund the FIA's Driver Salaries using the funds they currently use to pay their drivers, and the drivers then would be paid by the FIA on a pro-rated system based on previous season performances. The interesting part of this though, is that each of the drivers (and their respective manager and personal race engineer) would rotate teams throughout the season, racing for each team twice a season. The order to be drawn at random before the season.

This would then give each driver maximum chance to earn as many points as possible, driving each teams equipment. Also would give each team a chance to receive feedback from not just two, but 18-20 of the greatest drivers available which may help such teams as Honda and Force India score at least a few more points and develop their cars... During the winter testing months, drivers would be rotated in a similar fashion, but the teams could still employ personal test drivers as long as they were not current FIA F1 Drivers.

I know this is absolutely absurd, but for one season, I think it would be great to watch :)

It really is a great idea, I wonder why the teams are so against it, because it has been suggested before.

    When was it suggested before?

I agree, it sounds like a very entertaining idea, much more than spec engines.

    Love ya, Charlie.

An original thought is so refreshing, like water to a guy perishing in the desert.

Now, what ya gotta do is convince Max that he's had it, not you. Then we'll be powered up and ready to rock.

Haha thanks. Not sure if I have quite the connections to forward this memo to Max, not that he'd have any of it anyway. Boy he needs to step down already...

While speculating, how about getting away from the "'womens' gymnastics" syndrome? (Washed up at 18.)
(The real reason the USGP was cancelled: the drivers are too young to have champagne on the podium. :p)

If your team has a young kid driver, he must be teamed with a driver over 30. ;)

We could call it the babysitter rule. :p

Hami and Mika. Vettel and Shumi. ...

... Ide and Coulthard? Oops. :D

How about A1 grand Prix style where all cars are similar but with different drivers driving? This would sort out the real champion from the also rans!

We have tons of spec series already.

What's the point of turning F1 into just another training series?

That's like Speed TV dropping their exclusive WRC coverage to become one of a half dozen channels covering nascar.
