What is a stock 308 licence plate frame worth in good shape? Does it make sense to try to find one, or is it standard to make your own or to drill new holes?

    Thanks - Chris

    Dude!

Don't drill new holes! (Hope I caught him in time)

I have one (or two) you can use, as a template!

It's just an adaptor plate that mounts thru the two holes in the body panel and sandwiches two rubber grommets, then allows you to mount a US version plate.

You want that in galvanized steel, stainless, or monel???? LOL!

You mean the mounting bracket, not the frame.......

I lost a partial point in a concours for having the wrong license plate frame... this was back after I first got the car about 12 years ago. After the event I called Ferrari of Atlanta and got the CORRECT factory frame. At the time, it was about $15.

The factory correct frame is satin black, and basically flat stock with rounded edges and corners. I don't have a closeup with me, but you can see it reasonably well from this picture.

Dont worry, I'm not going to drill new holes! I just wanted to find out what the standard is. I did actually mean the frame, the early ones that just hold the edge of the US license plate, and have 4 studs on the back of it to go through the body... (see attached picture) however, an adapter plate would be excellent. Would you mind sending me a picture of your adapter? I really just want to get the plate on securely without damaging anything so I can drive it legally.

I attached a second picture (it was taken in the dark, but it gets the point across) to show how the tail of my GT4 has 4 holes that would be at the corners of a license plate. The previous picture is of the original early style licence frame.

I'll call Ferrari of Atlanta and see if they have that style frame available.

Hmmmm.....got me wondering now WHAT is holding my rear plates on!

Mine is not built with the four corner studs, for sure!

I was remiss in going out for pics this weekend! I'll go out soon..promise!

I know mine rides on rubber bushings in one case and the other car my be different, as well.....

I have a black frame on one and the other still has the 1977 Ron Tonkin dealer frame..it's very nice (chrome with red and Ferrari bar logo) and I'm going to keep it, with Texas plates, as part of the history of the car....

    Christopher,

My 1976 GTB has the frame you pictured with the four corner studs. I had to drill holes in the corners of my license plate to mount it with that frame. That's the correct frame for early US version 308s with the small recess.
