Just curious. Seems like good examples in the U.S. are USD $450-500K these days. Anybody know the details of any recent transactions in Canada? I heard the Ferrari of Quebec owner had his for sale and then decided to keep it after rebuilding the engine. Anybody know what the asking price was?

Hi, I do believe the one at FoQ was half a million CDN. From what I have gathered a good US car is in the area of $350K USD.

I know of 2 that were bought in the last 2 years in Toronto, they were both purchased between $425 - $475,000 CDN.

The '91 s seem to be fetching more, expecially with low km's.

    Definetely a good investment IMO.

Is a US F40 the same as a Canadian F40? With the high dollar, why not buy one from the US?

I don't think Canada really has an F40 market. The prices here will be driven by the world market. Whatever prices the cars sold for here are simply a currency conversion.

That's the one I was watching, which sparked this thread. So, at the current conversion rate, plus 6% duty, that car is ~ CAD $540K.

I agree there is not much of a market here, from what I have read on fchat and speaking to other enthusiasts. Very few cars and very few potential buyers. As an investment, you'd be hoping that a) the market will develop as the nostalgic set becomes interested and wealthy (i.e. if 2 or 3 guys decide they want one in a few years, it probably doubles the number of potential buyers here!) or, b) that you can easily sell the car to a U.S. buyer, in which case they need to be willing to import it.

Of course, you could snap it up now with the strong Canadian dollar, drive it properly for a few years, and hope the dollar tanks right before you sell it back :)

That's exactly why I said it was a good investment.

Although I think $540,000 CAN is way too much. Be patient, you can probably find one for under $500,000.

Weird things going on with that auction... 2 bids retracted already, and I swear I saw a bid at 479K that is no longer showing in the bid history.

I'm guessing the reserve is approx 479K, since "Reserver Not Met" disappeared when that bid was showing.
