The future doesn't look good for Maserati in Modena. Here is the latest comment from Sergio Marchionne that appeared in the Gazzetta di Modena: Gli impianti italiani: "A Mirafiori-Grugliasco si faranno le Maserati. A Melfi le 500 X e piccole Jeep. A Pomigliano le Panda. A Cassino il rilancio dell'Alfa. Mi impegno: saranno riattivati in pieno tutti gli impianti italiani". The Italian factories: "At Mirafioro-Grigliasco they will produce Maseratis. At Melfi the 500 and small SUVs. At Pomgliano the Panda. At Cassino the relaunch of Alfa Romeo. I promise: all Italian factories will be fully reactivated." "Firstly, because what remains of Maserati in Modena is purely symbolic, the trident overlooking the city and reepresents "luxury motoring" now seems to already belong in the past. But not only that. But according to Fiom/CGIL of Modena. "in Modena it is clear - says Cesare Pizzolla, provincial secretary of Fiom/CGIL Modena - that Maserati has ceased to exist." One feels that all that will remain of Maserati in Modena will be Administration, Marketing and accounting with two production lines to accomodate special models such as the Alfa 4C. To me a true Maserati is one made in Modena by Modenese workers who know and have pride in the marque and the cars they make. To me, a Maserati produced in Turin will be nothing more that a high-end Ferrari powered Fiat saloons with a Maserati badges. What do you think ???
Join the rest of us http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/maserati/433836-maserati-will-leaving-modena-behind.html And welcome to the 21st century. Cars haven't been made in the old manner @ Maserati for a long time.
I think Andrea wrote pretty clearly what the Modena factory would do, produce the "special" cars not suited for the more streamlined factory. To be honest I don't see the problem in that. To succed they need to make cars that people want to buy. And they need to adjust according to todays market.. These days it seems Maserati's reputation is better than ever, so they must be doing a lot of things right. That's my impression at least.
What do you think about the Porsche Boxster/Cayman made in Finland and the Cayenne made in Austria? It's the same story: it's not important the insigna on the roof of the plants, but the contents in the cars. This makes the difference for me.
PG1964, agree with your point completely. Porsche nor Maserati can prioritize old dogmas more than their real job, producing cars. I think this far, Maserati has been good at keeping the spirit in their cars. We should be pleased with that I think.
Well, Porsche has something like a Quality Control mechnism, to be applied even in Finland. Well, Fiat has .. err do we have any word for QC in Italian? Why would they leave the Modena factory abandond as they just built it some ten years ago to newest specs?
I don't know that they will abandon it as much as repurpose it. It hasn't the capacity to produce the volume of cars as they take over the world from Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar and Audi!
