    Dear fellow Racing F-Chatters,

    A question i've always wondered.

What is it about motorsports (F1, Nascar, IRL, Champ Car, MotoGP) that you love the most?

Is it the sporting aspects, technology, glamour, crashes, your own involvement, or perhaps something completely different??

Personal the competition is something I really enjoy. I like to see how the drivers and teams work to find advantages for themselves and beat the comeptition. (I loved watching the tour de france and the lance chronicles on OLN for the same reason)

    Cheers!

(as of post - 10 more days until melbourne!!!)

I prefer to be at the back of the pack at the first session, and front at the last session...I like the challenge of working my way up through the pack. Basically, its a diversion from my day job and just plain fun. Cars. Adrenaline. Exhaust fumes. Noise. Better view of the track than from the stands. Comradere. ;)

I enjoy F1 the most, because of the technology and the beauty of the cars.

Second would be NASCAR on superspeedways as it gives me a fix for side by side "bumper" to "bumper" competition.

    I absolutely do not like any kind of accident, and prefer that every car that starts a race, finishes. Except for arrogant clowns like JPM. :}

Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

I can't say anything about an arrogant clown like "you know who" until after Lent (April 8th) then, watch out. :)

The technology, the racing, and the pure entertainment. I think the most exciting thing is to watch someone to fight their way to the front from the back of the pack. Whether it be Michael in Brazil last year, or JPM in Mexico last weekend. Racing is just fun to watch, and when you really get into it's pretty much addicting.

Yep. There's nothing like heading to the base of the timing tower and having the crowd of drivers studying the sheets step aside so you can discover that your name is on top of the sheet! :)

Pays off on so many levels!

The explosion when the green flag waves. The run to the first corner. The fast corners. What it feels like when the car is perfect and wants you to drive. Running very hard and close with someone you know.

All the other reasons why the "everything else is just waiting" quote from LeMans has become a cliche in racing circles. I never really understood "terrible beauty" until I raced.

I like F1 100X more than other motorsports primarily because of
    - Driver talent (Schumi = God, Raikonnen and Alonso close behind),
    - Sheer competitiveness of the technical boys to constantly battle draconian regulations and try to get an advantage over the next guy. In business, companies will re-invest themselves once a decade or so. In F1 they need to find improvements thru revolution or evolution several times a year on a continuous basis. I think engineers who have forged themselves in F1 will do very well when they leave the industry and go elsewhere.
    - Great tracks
    - They race in the rain!
    - The excitement of the standing start
    - The rarely seen but superb overtaking by the masters

The best racing IMHO is F1 in the rain. More passing, more tire strategy, lots more fun to watch. Perhaps they should install sprinklers on all the tracks. Ha

In the alternative, pray for rain. Really.

For me, motorsports is like making love.

Watching F1 is like the most erotic movie you have seen, with other leagues being less erotic depending on the on-screen action.

Actually DRIVING/RACING on the track is like doing it with someone you love.

(Me thinkith me needs psychiatric help) ;)

    Wouldn't help. :p

I used to say rallying is the most fun you can have with your driving suit zipped up.

The only cure I know is ... sponsors. (They can really take the fun out of it.)

i like F1 because of everything. The atmosphere, the build up to the build up to the race, the fan's passion, the speed, the looks of the car,the sound of it.

MotoGP for it's overtaking! can't comment about the rest tho. rarely IRL gets aired here. forget about NASCAR and CHampCar. never gets aired here.

Feel free to PM me your reply if you want to keep it on the down-low. Many thanks as ALL help is ALWAYS appreciated.

    It's about testing yourself.

I only prepare, run and engineer race Ferraris, not actually drive them. But I still get an immense buzz from constantly improving and tweaking as the goal posts change around. I'm very proud to be on an incredible winning streak with www.allansimonsen.com driving the Ferrari I prepare.... it's a career highlight for me.

For me, being married, this is just one of the tests!!

It might depend on the sponsor. Ever see "Stroker Ace"? ;)

Rallying isn't like track events. When a sponsor puts his logo on your car, he gets really annoyed when you crash out on the first stage. :p But if you're not pushing the envelope, it's not racing.

Micro-managers are a pain in any field.
