I have a tinny, glassy resonating noise at 4,000 RPM in gear or not in gear, timing side of the engine. Has anyone had the same ?

Kind of a "ping"? I used to have that. Once I changed my exhaust it went away. I think this is fairly typical from other threads/posts I seem to remember.

The exhaust on the 328's start to get a pinging sound after a while, I believe it is the resonators inside the tips that start to go bad. Have heard it on many 328's

I had a belt cover stud that cracked (started similar to that) then broke and it sounded like something was going to fly apart. Check the cover studs are tight as a quick and dirty.

I second that. I've seen about 3 or 4 let go on different 308s. I kept the 10mm stud spuds in my tool box that I fished out of the block. One of them was a little stubborn, the others unscrewed easily - thankfully.
