There's many beautiful V12 Ferrari but if I had the money to buy one , it would be a 512 TR. (rosso corsa/black)

    You folks are confusing.

Personally, I voted for 512bb but...

How can the poll show 512TR as the leader so far, but you all panned the 348 ? They're basically the same car -- no round taillights, cheese slicer intake, etc. etc. What'll it be?

I understand what you're saying. Its true people like the 512 TR but when it comes to the 348 , they prefer the 328 or 355.
How come? I really don't know...

I'm one of those people who like the 348 and the 512 TR. I find the 348 is nicer than the F355 and if later in the future I have the money to buy a Ferrari , the 348 tb would be my first Ferrari.

    Daniel , love your 348!

You are right, but HE did post it on his choice list at the beginning of the thread, correct? So maybe he meant any 12. Very pleasant reply though. Nice to have you on the chat.

I voted for the 512BB, but I think the 365BB is much better looking.

Why are the people who invent these threads so myopic with respect to which cars were available?

348<512 since its not as well proportioned.

Same with 348<355. Add the rear lip to a 348 and the car is 100000x better from a design standpoint. The other thing about 348's is the large front damn that does't look very good.(Similar to the early TR's, that was corrected in the 512s)

Well for me here how I ranked them

    1) 512TR. Hey what can I say Miami Vice is still my favorite tv show. The Testarossa is one of the greatest designs to come out of the factory. There is absolutely no mistaking that it is an exotic. It screems I'm a FERRARI!

    2) 575. What a great Grand Touring car. Quick, fast, and elegant. The old school properly represented in the new school.

    3) 456. The best 2+2 to date in my opinion. It is so sophisticated. This is the car you take to the black tie ball. It will get you there in a hurry too.

    4) 512BB. This is the car that opened the door for the Testarossa.

    5) 412. The design is okay. Not great, but not bad either.

    6) 612. In one word, YUCK!

For what its worth, Ferrari NA used to have the following on the oficial website:

The Testarossa thus has a horizontally opposed cylinder configuration, known as a "flat", "boxer" or "180 degree vee" design.

You can argue this point for the rest of your life. The Ferrari 365 BB and TR, etc. engine is a Boxer engine, just as an Alfa Romeo Sud is also a boxer engine.

The terminology for calling an engine a boxer has been abused for many years and just because BMW called their engines Boxers does not mean that that is a rule.

Some people call engines that have the pistons coming and going against each other boxers, some the rods have to share the crank pin ... take your pick.

Maybe we should just call them Flat 12's ;)

    Pete
    ps: My vote: 250LM ;)

Note: the old Volkwagon flat 4 is a Boxer engine
Note: All of the Porsche engines are flat 6 in a Horizontally Opposed arrangement
Note: as discussed last year with references: all 180 degree 12 cylinder engines can be called "flat"; That is a 180 degree V12 (boxer) can be called a flat 12, and a 12 cylinder horizontally opposed engine can also be called a Flat 12. <<I remember this well, as I was on the terminology loosing side when real references arrived>>

In order to "box" the two pistons opposite one another have to be on a single crank pin. This makes an engine balancing issue as the center of mass between opposing pistons shifts to the left then to the right; causing the engine to <ahem> box back and forth. Thus the term boxer.
