I just have a few car models that need cleaning and i was wondering what the best way to do it was. Special pads I should use or something like that.

Cans of compressed air and vaccum cleaners used for computers. Blow of the majority of the dust with the air then vaccum the rest with the little vaccum.

    i have about 800 ferrari models in 1/12th 1/18th 1/43rd 1/87th scales
i clean the larger ones in tepid waterand washing up liquid, let them dry
off and then a quick polish, doing this will remove the dust from the inside of the cars and its get them back to original state.

I have a very large collection which I will eventually post pics of here.
For me cleaning is a big job!

For just dust use a shaving brush or large make-up brush...does a great job and no danger of hurting detail bits.
If there is a dirty film on the model soak a paper towel or Q-tip in windex and use that.
Of late I have also been using an acrylic cleaner and anti-static spray that I squirt right on then Q-tip or kleenex off. It leaves a nice finish and seems to be dust resistent as well.

I use Q-tips for my 1:43's. Also a makeup brush I stole from my girl. Works perfect. Besides, they're behind glass, so not much of a dirt-problem there.

It is the part that nobody talk from their collections. Its a lot of work to clean collections. Now Im buying display cases to conserve better my cars. With display cases you have only to clean outside the box. When I have time I cleean my cars with pressure air (Computer pressure cleaner), polish (Red polish for normal cars), cotton cloth and Q-tips.

    Good luck cleaning !!

I wipe mine down with a wet cloth, then dry it off. Then I put car wax on them...........sounds weird but try it!! I even put some "Tire Wet" on a Q-tip and do the tires!!

Guys the best way I have found to keep the Diecasts looking spick and span is to put its on the wife's cleaning list!!! I have got to say that she does an excellent job by just using a duster and cleaning them weekly!!! I also second the polish bit.. try a little auto glym, it brings the paint work up to an incredible standard...

I too use car wax on my models. Just a little on a Q-tip, wipe it on, let it dry, then wipe it off with a soft clean terry cloth. Brings out the color and shine in them and makes them easier to dust off. Personally, I use Eagle One Wet Polish & Wax. It does a very good job of covering any minor scratches which may be on the car. True it is time consuming because it is small, but it is well worth it in the long run.
