The thread title says it all - I will only have about 8 hours in the Modena area and did not prearrange a factory tour. What is the best way to spend that 8 hours?

Thanks - it seems to be mandatory based on other threads :). Will plan to dine there, but not sure how to best spend the rest of the day with such a short time window.

We may be too casual for Osteria Francescana. The weather in Italy has been off the charts hot (100+ every day). Forecast for Modena is 102-104, so will be in shorts for sure. We may need to find some place for lunch/dinner that is more casual.

    Ciao Peter,

    if...

    ...then I'd recommend

    la trattoria Ermes
    Via Ganaceto, 89-91

Lovely place full of locals but prepare for queue outside: it really IS good and value for money for sure.

    Cheers

Good point - even in more typical Italian restaurants our meals are often 2 hours +. The food in Italy is always amazing. I rarely eat pasta in the US, but can't get enough of it here.

This seems to always be the case - the average restaurant in Rome, for example, is not nearly as good as what you typically find is small cities.
