I think the math has changed on these now, 10+ years ago there were cheap examples in worse condition but now owners are prepared to spend good money to bring the cars up to scratch to ensure a high sale price

Damn! In 2016 during the the "Duemila Ruote" auction, chassis ZFFGJ34B000091464 had an initial estimate of 725k-875k EUR but ended up selling for €1,030,400! Back then people thought it was an outrageous value... The car had 26k km and was in an incredible condition.

I believe every example that has fried in recent years has, or is being fully rebuilt.

The last ones up for sale was the ex Dave Gilmour car in Europe and the ex bubble roof car, that was withdrawn from the auction when its past caught up with it. Believed to be owned buy the proprietor of Eurospares.

No news of the more recent dodgy blue one in the UK.

    It isn't.

The thing you have to realize is that the Private Sales market fir F40s is at least as big as the Public Sales market, so if you simply read the current posted Ads, you're not going to see the full picture, in fact I can say with confidence that more F40s change hands privately than publicly, we should know as most of our business is Private Treaty.

There's an F40 which looks superb as a result of a full refurbishment and is completely standard but has close to 62,000 miles (100,000 kilometers) which can probably be purchased for @ $1,200,000 based on recent conversations with the owner.

On March 9th I was offered a 1991 with 80,000 kms for 1,200,000 Euros or $1,323,770, the car is standard and unmodified and apart from the high miles, and the front hood has been repainted.

Those are 2 examples of standard cars at the lower end.

    thank you joe and paul.
now that legitimately good cars with normal mileage are around the $2.5 mil area, i think that there is a market for these compromised F40's.

to use your examples, high mileage will soon not mean that much to a lot of guys that want to get onto the F40 train. especially if they are well maintained and come from one of your clients.
you should advertise those cars on here - you will find buyers ! :)

I aggregate and archive major collector car classifieds (among other data) - this car you linked was priced at 1,558,500 CHF/1,695,300 USD as of 6mo ago, which is the floor I have as well over the last 6mo. However, with that price being increased, the other floor was a listing at 1,325,000 GBP/1,799,500 USD as of 1mo ago which has since been delisted. Private seller in the UK, originally UK-supplied, 1989 model, 3 owners, non-cat, non-adjust, recent major service, 11,430 km, don't have the chassis #.

I asked David Gizzi of Euro-Classics a question similar to this last year, specifically about the F40 actually - what he believed the ratio was of auction-sold F40s to directly-sold F40s (via dealer or private). He threw out a ballpark figure of 10:1 in favor of the direct sales, of course much of which are public listings with 'Price on Request' or totally private/unadvertised transactions - in other words, figures unavailable to the public. Could be an exaggerated ratio (or not), but an educated perspective worth sharing regardless - and one which lines up with Joe's comment.

    thats great.
i think there will be numerous buyers of these high mileage, but otherwise correct and unmolested cars.
if i wanted an f40 but my budget was $1 million short of mkt value for top cars, then why not. who cares if it has 60k miles if it functions as intended?

The 2 examples I gave aren't compromised in the sense of a car that has been irreversibly modified or has an identity crisis, they are perfectly good well-maintained cars which simply have more miles than average.

This isn't the right venue to advertise cars for sale privately, their conveyance is preferred by their owners to be private as the Private Treaty name implies, what we do is share full details of those cars in our private mail-out to our existing clients & contacts. After the car is sold we might log a selection of some (but not all - some clients request total privacy or non-disclosure) of the cars here https://joesackeyclassics.com/cars/ or here https://www.instagram.com/joesackeyclassics/

When it comes to public sales, to cater to clients who want to sell their car's publicly, my son recently got us started in a successful online auction platform https://www.sackeyandco.com/ and we do the advertising here https://www.instagram.com/sackeyandco/ and other places online besides, we log the sales here https://www.sackeyandco.com/results , watch for the upcoming F40s.

No, that's another F40 which belongs to @noncatnonadjust and isn't for sale, there are a surprising number of high-mileage F40s.

The car for sale at Affolter in Switzerland has been for sale for well over a year with it's for sale price always increasing, IMO it isn't seriously for sale.

As another example, in December just 3 months ago, I just sold the Classiched 85944 with just over 20,000 miles for $1,600,000 (the new owner is cool and won't mind my mentioning - he scored) plus 5% commissions to us. It has just completed a major service at Ferrari of Newport Beach including new fuel cells, the whole thing took from January 30th to now, so around 8 weeks, I'll see it on Thursday and post some better detail images of it in this section.

this is great info Joe !
frankly i think even those cars are undervalued, and my guess is now with this info getting some air time, that your phone will be ringing!
these are great cars and need to be driven by enthusiasts !

Sounds like a great opportunity for an enthusiast who wants to enjoy their car without hesitation. Those prices offers the ability to drive the cars without worrying about adding miles and restore it down the road and still be into the cars for well below what a low mile car commands today. Once it’s restored the miles are somewhat irrelevant.

frankly, Joe's phone ought to be ringing off the hook.
these cars are absolutely perfect for most of the guys who just want to drive an icon, and dont care about the mileage now, or later.

nb, nobody asks you how many miles are on your 275gtb....

My phone isn't ringing any more than it normally does, true these high-mileage cars represent nice opportunities for some, but in a market undeniably dominated by the influence of mileage, when people call they often want lower mileage cars, cars with an interesting provenance, or Lexan sliding windows cars and are willing to pay up for all those. And sometimes they want other cars besides F40s.

    i believe you.
however, i think things have changed now.
here is my view, take it for what it is worth :)

we are in a transitional period for the F40.....in the middle of the time that mileage matters and the time when mileage truly wont matter, which means that there are still people willing to pay big prices for cars with low mileage, and now a growing number of people that desperately would like to experience an iconic ferrari but cannot, or do not want to, pay for a $2.5 million ride.

the guys who are pure collectors, may continue to be willing to pay up for low mileage garage queens but the drivers wont mind the mileage or the discount.
and i think that second group far outnumbers the first group.

and i think that second group may not have even known that you deal with high mileage F40's as well as low mileage pristine examples - i will confess that i did not know that.
and now that this thread is here, and guys can look it up, i do suspect that you will get more calls.

you can thank me later for starting this thread :)

Things have not changed. the comparison between F40's and a 275 with regard to mileage is light and day.. the vast percentage of 275's and 250's have been subject to full restorations and mileage basically starts again... with the F40.. people steer clear of rebuilt cars.. .. As Joe has pointed out mileage is not everything.. but market is "dominated by the influence of mileage".. rightly or wrongly this is true.. I was surprised by the spread of 100 % between higher mileage cars and low mileage cars..

For a bit of fun, and to make us all cry, what are the lowest known prices F40s dipped to in your country during their lifespan?

I recall some going below £150,000 here in the UK for a couple of years.
