Is this torque setting in the WSM? What is recommended by those who have done it before? (Also posted in the Technical Q&A Forum.)

correct torque as spec in wsm.
    Important:
should torque in three equal steps, wait 24 hours then torque to final torque, wait an additional 24 hours then repeat final torque check, these are studs and tend to relax overnight, other then that no, mystery some one on chat gave the very good advice of: Don't over think the job.

I believe Peter's description refers to placing new studs in the block, not torquing the heads onto the block. I may be mistaken, but I do not believe there is a torque specification for inserting a stud into cast iron. As long as you have 4 to 5 full turns you have achieved maximum shear strength of the threads, which translates to maximum tensile strength of the stud-block mating. With 4 or 5 turns the stud will fail or stretch before the threaded stud-block junction will. Of course, the more turns the better.

When torquing the head nuts to 55 pound-feet (from memory, double check), you achieve the designed clamping force of head to block.
