As long as you'll be using the search feature, see if you can find that as well. ;)

Principal difference is increased engine size (from 5.5 to 5.75 liter) and attendant horsepower (480 to 515).

F1 transmission also became available on the 575. All 550's were manual.

It's the displacement of the engine. That is what the numbers signify. For example a 308 (the Magnum P.I. car) is a 3.0 liter V8 = 308. Then we have the car I own a 348 = 3.4 liter V8. Then there is the brand new 430 = 4.3 V8.

    So, using that train of thought, a 550 is a 5.5 liter V12, and a 575 is a ..............

    Get the picture?

Launched in 2002, it is essentially an updated Ferrari 550 featuring minor styling changes from Pininfarina.

Updates from the 550 include a renewed interior, bigger brake discs, a larger engine, a different weight distribution, refined aerodynamics and an adaptive suspension set-up (the four independent suspensions are also controlled by the gearbox, to minimize pitch throughout the 200-milliseconds shift time). Two six-speed transmissions are available, a conventional manual gearbox and, for the first time on a Ferrari V12, Magneti Marelli's semi-automatic (sequential) 'F1' gearbox. The model number refers to the engine's capacity in litres.

In 2005, Ferrari developed a new GTC handling package and Superamerica version, along with upping the power from 515 PS (379 kW) to 540 PS (397 kW).

However the 456 was named over the size of each cylinder (456cc),and not total capacity.Who knows why?

    The 550 would then be a 5.5-liter 0 cylinder and the 575 would be a 5.7-liter 5 cylinder.

    Ferrari makes odd engines.

Fuel system is different, air intake is different, etc. etc.

The mechanicals are *not* the same car. It's more like the magnitude of change between 348->355 than the change from 308QV-328.

550/575 might look alike (like the 348/355 have a similar appearance) but they're different beasts indeed.
