Is there a simple way to modify and increase hp to a tr? Such as increase timing or change cams.

Is the risk too high to the engine to do such mods without changing many other components?

I'm a rookie here and have reasonable understanding of basic motors but lack hands on experience or know how.

Thanks for any input. I would not do the work myself as I would have a shop do it for me. Just curious what options are out there without getting crazy!

Buy another car. There is no non crazy way.

CIS injection will not tolerate long duration cams.

Love the car just want to know if any easy option juice it up a bit.

Since I couldn’t find any threads regarding this I realize it’s probably not easy or it’s unrealistic. Thanks for your input!

I've heard of those 125 hp fender badges, but never actually got to see the test data.

I don't know of any other than exhaust. I think a 512 TR is faster.

    Its all in good sport.
Put you $$ into serious maintenance items and enjoy your car.
A kid with a 400hp old civic with a turbo, is going to smoke you anyways on the low end.

    Just remember...

In a few years, he’ll own a used chevy. A Testarossa owner will have a unique, appreciating, classic icon.

I have owned my 91 Testarossa for 19 years and have been on fchat since 2001. I have seen many threads asking about power increases but I have never seen a cost effective solution. Norwoods does the twin turbo kit as does Koenig with a supercharger kit. Both extremely expensive for the return.
Even when I floor it to redline, the standard gearbox can't keep up to shift to the next gear fast enough. Add more power, I think it's just wasted.
The Testarossa is a cool and visceral car....but a slow dog. Enjoy it for what it is. If you really want something fast and in your face, the Lamborghini Diablo won't disappoint. I owned a Diablo VT Roadster and you could really see how much they took from the Testarossa in secret testing . I've always said a Diablo is like a Testarossa on steroids.

At least do the exhaust. The sound is amazing if not any faster.

first of all you may select between easiest and cheapest

if you would be able to do all yourself ( but you have written you will let it do ) then you would have the most fun as shamile has written with this what norwoods or koenig was doing - 2 turbochargers. but then you have to use much money to get the car reliable ( pistons, fuel- ignition system, intercooler, clutch, gearbox, brakes, shocks ) but the car still is very heavy and not a race car. you see when you push the car a little how bad the brakes are in original condition ( even at that time they have been great but not today anymore ), so no need to have more power.

to not spend so much you only replace the fue injection from CIS to a map controlled system. this will give you some more reliable power but it needs a specialist to adjust this map controlled fuel injection system. also you then just may use a combined system for injection and ignition. so you could put the rpm limiter then higher than original and with the right adjustment you may then also have some more power.

I have no knowledge if there is avaiable on the market other cams. as brian has written: CIS injection will not tolerate long duration cams

but why you like to have more power when you just got your car? get used to the car and enjoy. go on a racetrack and see where the limit is and always remember, you have 30 year old technic. so have fun

I have owned one Norwood Twin Turbo. If you want to drop 70k and get a beautiful job done and 1000hp this is the way to go.
Absolutely loved mine and had zero issues. Or keep an eye our for one of his.

what did norwood do with the gearbox/mainshaft/layshaft/propellershaft? primary gears from clutch down to gearbox? clutch? brakes? also changed the pistons? ignition- injection system? if this all has to be done it is much more than only 70k

my koenig competition with 2 map controlled injection- ignition systems now needs more adjustment, until now I adjusted up to 0,4 bar boost, but like to have again 1.3 :) but no time to adjust. too much to do ;) and just now relaxing with warm weather in thailand as every year :)

you bought the car already done from norwood or let it have done by norwood?

Motronic efi, Brembo big brake kit but I believe it is a 10k upgrade. Carillo or Oliver billet rods and custom forged pistons, Je/Ross. The custom airboxes were beautiful and Looked factory. Transmission gears were left alone but 512 components for shafts. It did break some teeth on 2nd but not under my ownership.
I'm not sure he does them anymore. Tuning is the most time constraining I believe.

you have 1 or 2 motronics? I think 2. so modified or from what car? what year is your car?
you know perhaps the compression ratio?
how much max. boost you had until now?
you bought the car with those modification or let have it done?
2nd and 3rd gear set are the most stressed gears becasue in 1st gear you never can drive right, always spinning wheels and acceleration most happpens in 2nd and 3rd.
after whow many rpm your boost will increase? on my competition below 3200 rpm is nothing :( but at 3500 it is like a rocket then :) :) :)

could you please post some pictures

Higher compression pistons, some porting and matching, hotter cams and modified electronic injection can get you more than 480 HP. But peak power and torque will shifted to high RPM's so to get a proper power band you should raise the rev limiter to 8000-8500RPM(if there is one). With ITB's you can push to 550 HP.

My initial thoughts were simple upgrade for maybe up to 50hp. I see that its not reasonable. If I was to go turbo or other I would just get another car!. Keeping this one as close to stock as I can.

I just curios to see what options were out there!

    Thanks Again!

How much would this run? $20k? $50k?? 8500rpm and 480hp sounds like a dream come true out of the TR.

This reminds me of me when I had my cl65 amg...I pushed it to 700bhp, them
Changed brakes, tcu, diff etc... in the end I could have gotten another car...
The tr is a collectible, enjoy it for what it is or buy another new Ferrari to ride along with;)

Tr is not a slow car. I have taken on countless 360 & 430s with it and surprised many with her performance.

I will not buy it to collect, I will buy it to drive.
