In my 1982 308 there is an electronic box under the carpet in the passengers footwell, and I am not sure what it is.... is it the electronics for the catalytic converter thermocouples, and "slow down" lights ?? If not, what is it then ?

I just want to be sure, I am restoring all the smog gear to Calif compliance and want to be sure I don't miss anything that might not be working.

There should be two small boxes and they are for the thermocouples that operate the slow down lights. Each bank has its own thermocouple. They have no relation to emissions. When the exhaust temp gets too high they simply signal you to drop the revs and let the exhaust cool down. Lost

See page 104 in the 186/80 OM or page 102 in the 216/81 OM (which, unfortunately, got left out of the .pdf file of 216/81 availabe online). There should be three items in the US passenger footwell -- the two warning light ECUs and the ECU that disables the sir injection system when the engine is cold and at high RPM (which you should never do anyway ;)).
