I was in the middle of nowhere in a 1995 modified Trans Am (as I mentioned in another post) back in 1997 when I got nabbed doing 282 km/h (about 175mph). I debated whether or not to stop for a minute or two and then decided to stop, about 10 km later. The cop, who had been going in the opposite direction, finally caught up to me about 10 minutes later. The first thing he did was tell me I was an idiot for stopping. There was no way he would ever have caught me and I was only 8 km from being outside his jurisdiction. He was the only cop on duty in the whole county and couldn't figure out what to do with me. In the end he escorted me home, waited for me to park the car and took the keys with him when he left. He had to stay up all night working then appear in court with me the next morning. He helped me work out a deal where if I didn't get a ticket for 12 months, there would be no fine and no record on my license. After court, I bought him breakfast and a bouquet of flowers for him to take to his wife. Apparently I beat the previous record for speeding in that county by 95 km/h! (For all the people about to give me crap for going so fast, I agree. I learned my lesson and have confined my speeding events to tracks and private roadways.)

105 mph (my speedo showed over 110 when I saw him closing on me). It was in about 1987 on highway 395 in eastern CA, going north into Bishop. He hauled me straight to court. But the Judge was out for lunch ( and a quicky I presume) and so his clerk took $400 off of me and a guilty plee. I felt ok about it....I'd been at over 100 for nearly an hour trying to cover 100 miles in 60 minutes.....when this CHP came off of a side dirt road in the desert where he had a mobile home and saw me go by. You can't imagine how surprised I was when he showed up behind me in my '82 911 SC....he in a 5L Mustang. I'd refocused all of my reconn. to the front after spending a while at speed.
