Ah, I was just walking down the street today. Minding my old bidness. You know. Skipping cobblestones. Feeling groovy. When this little bird flew up and sang, "That TR that just sold went for $15 million." Imagine that.

Napolis, as usual, is right on da money...

To put this into some kind of perspective, if you gave Jim $15M to invest in tax-free bonds, I suspect that he would be able to gin up somewhere between $40,000 and $50,000 a MONTH in tax-free interest. For those of you who haven't had their first cup of coffee yet, that's equal to 3 360s a year without even touching your principal.

And please don't misunderstand, I'm not putting the buyer down for spending this much money on an old car. I actually think that it is great. These kind of numbers make it possible for collectors to restore these old cars instead of sending them to crusher. In one very small way, the world is a better place.

    Take care, DrTax

I'll bring that $15 million as soon as i have it together!

I opened the door, on a beer run last night and found 3 cents on the ground, one of them was heads "up"!

    It won't take me long......

    Jim --

I've reliably heard less for 0704, the second TR prototype, and according to the ex-owner of the '60 LM winner, no one knows the real price (although I also heard 12.8). In both cases trades were involved, so who knows?

Still...both deals appear to be well north of 10M. I think all the $5M pontoon fender cars just went up in value....

Other than that, there's a fair amount of mis-information in this thread.

(And there should be at least three 4 cylinder TRs and three V12 TRs, as well as 3-5 GTOs at Mont-Tremblant for the Ferrari Festival at the end of the month. Most or all will also be at Lime Rock on July 9-10. You'll be there?)

    Hi
Yes I will. Will you be in the area long enough to get together? The 12.8 I heard was net to P with the cal spyder going to rw but as you very correctly point out: "Who knows?"

That's one of the cars that I most hope to see in Monterey.
I'd love to get a picture of it next to my car!
(Not that there's much hope of that actually happening.)

This is chassis 0704TR, proto #2, regarded as a factory car, whereas open-fenders were customer cars. Participated in 57 and 58 LeMans but did not win or may be even did not finish.
Remained for long time (1967-90's) in Ford Museum as a gift from Arthur True.

About the 250 GTO replica, I think that it was based on 250 SWB chassis 2067 GT, with the body (Drogo?) of 250 GTO chassis 3445. The seller tried to sell it as 3445, but I do not remember further details, but the story is well known.

    Ciao
