But yet the queen mother 4 seat family cars are trading at 3X+ what a 360 does, also no comparison in driving experience to a 360. I'm not sure that makes for a valid comparison for cars several generations apart....4 generations separating a 328 from a 360.

 

The Queens are considered Enzo cars. The 3X8s are Fiat cars.

 

I’m not allowed to discuss investments on any public forums for compliance reasons. I believe non finance instruments such as cars would not apply. That being said, it’s pure speculation.

100k is a tough segment.

These cars aren’t the fastest, but they rev sweet and are small and nimble and pretty

355 is the absolute best value for performance out there and one of my absolute favorites. 80k buys a nice Berlinetta or GTS. Once sorted, they are similar in cost to 360 /430. 360 has cheaper belts, but more expensive clutch..,.kind of a wash. I own both.

Exactly. Most model Ferrari's range broadly in condition which makes establishing value challenging.

 

From 1988-2016, every Ferrari was a Fiat car.

 

I think the generally accepted eras are:

Enzo everything up to about the Dino/Daytona era.

Fiat from the Enzo era to the F348

Luca Montezemolo from the Fiat era to, what, the F458?

The sweater committee from then on.

I almost bought one once, around 2002, for maybe $60k.

 

The more I think about this, which is always dangerous, I keep circling back to the F550 Maranello. It was the last link to the Enzo era Ferraris. Modern, but still a bit rough around the edges. Everything was about the front-engined V12. That and the long-throw gated shifter. How long ago did Ferraris have a big gated shifter? If you drive a Maranello, and I mean really drive it, you'll discover what started all this in the first place. Damn, I miss mine even though financially I took a beating on the car.

Great choice, I think they will do well in the future....if I didn't already have a similar era car that I think is better in most respects (Lamborghini Diablo Roadster), a 550 would be near the top of the list.

 

348 because it'll be the one to have in a collection. 355 when you have only one.

I think the manuals that also had an F1 version. Due to rarity and the fact that Ferrari doesn’t make gated manuals anymore. The 430, the 360, the 355, in that order. If you can still find one cheap enough, the 348 might be a bargain. Those prices have risen too. I assume we are referring to once affordable cars. The Boxer and Testarossa might be busy as well. They were practically giving Testarossas away 5-6 years ago.

 

Hopefully one of my two kids will keep my 430 spider manual when I die. Probably have over 100k miles by then

In my view any model that has a Ferrari transmission that does not have to shipped out for repairs. After the rush to market with the 458, any Ferrari that has to be sent back to a non-Ferrari manufacturer. All California's, 458's and subsequent "replacement" models in this range are eventually going to face price slumps due to transmission mechanical repair issues, because the Getrag gearbox's are already failing.......
The last dependable gearbox was the 430's that you can get parts directly from Ferrari or third parties.
Ask around before this post short-circuits your mindset...

Sorry, the first Ferrari without a manual was the 456.

 

First Ferrari without a stick was the 456, and its conventional torque converter automatic was much smoother than the clunky “auto manual” F1 gearbox.

 

There was a 400 with an automatic. It was first.

 

The 456M is a sleeper that may yet take off, despite the fact that the majority have automatics. Only around 1,300 made it to the U.S. over 11 years, so it is relatively rare and arguably one of the most beautiful Pinninfarina designs. I showed mine recently and won not only a Platinum award but best 12-cylinder Ferrari overall in a field that contained many excellent 550s, 575s and Testarossas. It’s a very mature design and unlike the models just mentioned there is not a bad line on the car. The more you look at it the more you appreciate just how elegantly the character and cut lines flow together. Of course, as an owner I’m biased, and I also find the FF quite intriguing, so some might question my judgement!

 

Right you are, but the 456 was the first model sold by the factory in the U.S. with one.
