We all know that having a car that does 0-60 in 3.6s or 4.2s, etc..., does not mean at all that regular drivers can go that fast with their cars.

When manufacturers test their cars, they use the best of everything that they have (track, driver, equipment, engine tune-up, weather, ...).

So, in real life conditions, what is the REAL performance of our cars from 0to60 (458, California, 612, 599, 430, 360, ...) ??

Add the following to the Magazine times depending on the parameters indicated...

Add .5 seconds for a solid, trained, experienced race driver.

Add 1.0 seconds for guys who only think they are solid, trained, experienced race drivers.

Add 1.25 seconds for your local GT5 addict.

Add 1.5 seconds for anyone who quotes you their car's 0-to-60 time.

I would only qualify this with one thing. If you have a car with traction/launch control and you can get there in 1st gear or you have a paddle shift that gets you to 2nd quick, the lag may be not more than 0.5 sec.

With a full manual gearbox and three pedals, I would guess most of us couldn't match what a professional race driver could achieve.

With the auto-manuals and launch control in cars like a Nissan GTR, Ferrari 599/California, Porsche PDK, etc., anyone should be able to match the manufacturer quoted performance numbers. The computers do the work, and none of us are better than those computers. The real question is how quickly you can place a cell phone call while the car is doing all of this.

After a certain point 0-60 is nothing but bar banter. If you don't have fun driving the car it doing 0-60 in 3 seconds vs. 4 won't make much of a difference.

Add about 30 days for the second launch control trip you do in your GT-R -

Good call, generically I was going to add "don't forget to factor in the replacement costs for the clutch you will burn up and the differential and drive axles you will blow up while trying to get your 0-60 times to match the magazines".

A magazine road test 0-60 run is a pretty brutal event with a 3 pedal car, the clutch drop at high revs is not something most drivers will ever experience. In a paddle-shifter automated manual, it's still a brutal event, and a few launch control runs will also smoke a clutch.

In a regular slushbox automatic, it's much less brutal... and much more boring. ;)

This is why straight line acceleration is usually measured in a quarter of a mile.

As stated it really up to the driver and most drivers do not abuse their personal car. I abused the hell out of my old '92 MR2T but I built it too withstand the abuse, I was in the low 12's in the quarter but it was my first time at a track so my reaction times were atleast 1 second off, learning the tree and not building enough boost for a good launch. Now on the street thats a different story as I was always sub-4sec's 0-60, how do I know this? Well I beat cars that were verified 4's and MR2's with almost the same mod's were in the mid to low 3 second range and a few have hit 2's.

    Two regret's!
    1. Wish I had never sold it.
    2. Wish I had baught that Tilton clutch.

Yet 0-60 represents what is usually a street battle ie stop light to stop light which is what 99% of people use as a scale, I agree with your point though.

Also keep in mind gearing redline and torque, some cars do not even have to shift out of 1st to get to 60.

My experience is that cars from Ferrari perform in accordance with the specifications.

You only shift gear once in the models with lesser bhp going from 0 to 60.
