Canaidan made and designed.. very popular airplane. Harrison Ford was in town a few years ago picking one up that he bought.
Great airplanes. Amazingly light on the controls-- seems totally incongruous given the size and appearance of the airplane.
I have flown a Beaver and was very impressed with it; smooth, docile, well balanced controls, and comfortably predictable.I posted this before but I'll hit again. I live near Kenmore Air Harbor where most of the Beaver sea planes are put together. I was looking at one in the final stages and couldn't help noticing all the fancy radio and nav equipment. Then it was apparent that the R985 looked like it was all new. When I asked I was told that everything on it was ZERO TIME. Then I asked who in the world had the money for all this mucho expensive finery. Answer, " Harrison Ford."
Bob... are they building Beavers? I thought they ended production in the late 60's or so. I've flown (as a passenger) in DdHavilland Otters, both radial and turbine. Looks and feels like a bigger Beaver. And, of course, Twin Otters, when the 'old' Frontier Airlines flew them on mountain routes. (Saw one take off with about a 5' takeoff run... stiff headwind... took off like a helicopter.)
Kenmore scours the world for Beavers in any condition. I have watched them assemble pieces and parts from wrecks and worn out Beavers and what they don't have whole, they remanufacture. This is an amazing outfit and they produce beautiful airplanes.Otters too.
I got to thinking about my flight in the Beaver in 1999. Flying back from the Queen Charlotte's I noticed that the waters below had many ripples and white caps and they didn't seem to be passing by very fast. I checked the DME and commented that it was wrong, indicating only 40MPH ground speed. The guy in the right seat said that the DME was okay and winds often reached 50 to60 in the straits. " Drop down to 3000 and see how that works". As we passed over Speiden Island and San Juan Island it was obvious that it worked and the ground speed picked up by 25-30 MPH. Still a healthy headwind all the way to Seattle and Lake Washington for a nice smooth landing. A lot of the big money types in Seattle own Beavers like some of the others own Ferrari's.The airplane has class.
on the same Ferrari rally well known Oz collector flew over us in this, what is it? Image Unavailable, Please Login
