I found this way up under my driver's seat today. It is made of a hard rubber material an is 2.25" in diameter. 1987 328......It seems to be some kind of grommet. Thanks in advance.

I believe that is the little ring around your ignition key - It is the circular plastic ring that surrounds where you put your key in on the dash. ( I think) Hope this helps.

Is there something missing around the ignition? michael brown

Yes..you guys are amazing. I have had my car for three years and always wondered why it looked so crappy around the ignition switch. The bezel won't snap in all the way, but I'll take a dremel to it tomorrow. The bezel looks so new it has probably been under the seat since 87!

Do not modify it. There is a ring on the other side of the upholstered panel that should slide over the tangs and snap in place holding that bezel in place. It probably does not fit all the way due to that ring not being lined up properly.

Thanks and I will tinker with it tomorrow...The really amazing thing is That I thought my car was 100% intact.....I'm talking I stiil have the dealer installed Clifford alarm and it still works! I recently got the wiper washers working which was the last on the list. Now I wonder what else might be missing....Thanks again.

Do you remember a movie entitled "The Blob"? Well, there is a new threat from afar that's out there. It's made of hard rubber - - Could this be the "Giant Grommet that Ate The Earth"?

I guess it's better than finding a "soft rubber" under the seat:)

Cheers, Hank (I know, I offered no assistance whatsoever) :(
