    That is an access panel that allows you to examine the clutch and the flywheel. If you have fluid draining from it, it suggests that there is a leaky seal in the clutch bearing assembly, perhaps clutch or bleeder line or maybe from the transmission shaft. I'll bet the cases have to come apart to find the cause... :(

    No fluid on the outside of the transmission? No other symptoms?

    I'd take the inspection plate off and see where the fludi is coming from, transmission side or engine side..

    That looks really old and dried up.. Is anything leaking on the ground? Take that cover off and inspect inside

    +1;

    Remove and use a snake camera to inspect. This will be costly to repair in either case. Clean up the area, but be careful not to fire hose it, or randomly spray degreaser everywhere; clean it carefully so you can determine the leak rate.

    My 2003 360 had the same "look" that ended up being a oil leak at the crank plug behind the pilot bearing.

    I had my mechanic take a look and he thinks it is the thrust bearing unit oil seal, the seal mounted on the other side of the bearing support flange, item # 26 on the Ricambi parts page:

    Looks like a rather labor intensive job but I'd better get to it before it gets worse...

    That is a Transmission out service. So better check your clutch wear, and carefully consider changing the clutch and throwout at the same time. The delta will just be the cost of the parts + a little extra labor.

    If its a very slow leak you can likely drive it for months just fine as long as its:
    1. A slow leak
    2. You dont run it "dry"

    Just a thought.

    Interesting. The records given to me when I purchased the car show that the clutch assembly and throw out bearing were replaced less than 2 years and 5k miles ago. Unfortunately, I also understand that a rough or inexperienced driver can mess up a clutch pretty quickly. The leak is small, so as suggested perhaps I could live with it until the clutch is closer to needing replacement again.
