If it was a sensor cable, why would it be so thick? Judging by the diameter, wouldn't it be an electrical cable coming directly from the battery? On which side of the engine is the starter motor on a 575? Alternator?

Here's how the 550 is set up:

There is a large cable going from the battery (2) to the alternator (1). The starter motor (3) is piggybacked off the alternator

I suggested the clutch sensor cable as I had mine replaced and here is the old one. It feels the same. It is not solid like a battery cable. I was not told how it was routed when it was replaced.

Ah, my mistake. The cable in your first photo looked very smooth and thicker. This old cable looks either shielded or has several wires inside (or both).
