The logo is not stock and neither is the diffuser.

I know the logo is not stock, but it looks painted on. Just wondering if it's an aftermarket part. The diffuser is stock... what makes you think it isn't?

Aah. Sorry - it looked gold in the first photo for some reason. Yes - definitely stock.

So, the original question still remains unanswered. Is this a stock part with tkx's logo placed on it (looks like it's painted on, not a sticker), or is it an aftermarket part by tkx?

    Thanks,

So it's a "Crash attenuator" and is a factory part? Please confirm. I tried to look it up on the parts diagram, but could not locate it.

    Thanks again,

Yup - it's also commonly called a "crash box" in racing as well. Basically it is something to absorb the impact/energy if you are rear ended and the impact makes it to the rear of the gearbox. The idea is the crash box gets destroyed and hopefully not your transmission, the union of the transmission to the motor, or the internals.

    Diagram:

GEARBOX - COVERS - Ricambi America, Inc.

    It's item 35:

207461 REAR SHOCK ABSORBER - Ricambi America, Inc.

It if it painted, you can easily have it removed and powdercoated. Might just be a vinyl sticker. Either way, if they put it on without asking, that's wack. I can't stand that.

Warning - do not just unbolt the back cover. You risk the joint between the gear plate and the box becoming compromised - I just had to rebuild my gearbox for this exact reason. (I'm installing a challenge stradale gearbox that has been in an accident which had resulted in the rear cover being damaged - it saved the transmission exactly as it was intended to but the salvage shop just unbolted the broken cover and stuck a replacement on without realising the joint fails as the fixings for the cover actually hold the whole gear set in place!! So leave the rear cover in place do not mess with it :)

Here is a picture of how the sandwich plate fits down onto the box - soon as the cover bolts come out that lot is effectively floating on two pegs and the sealant.

Euro cars do not have the crash box like in the US to my knowledge. At least that is what the diagram on Ricambi shows. You sure you are talking about the right part?

    Thanks for the pic!

Yah I will defer to an expert rather than potentially misleading or confusing this further. All I know is that your pic is different than the F430 US diagram, and definitely different than my US 430 Scuderia. In both of those cases, the crash box is smaller and it is held on by only 4 bolts.

Yes I think we require clarification on this on the 430 - it's definitely different than the 360. Check out the picture attached here -you see the rear sandwich plate and the gears all the same/similar to the 360 and then the rear cover is much smaller - like the 360 challenge rear cover was. Maybe the crash box you're referring to actually bolts to this rear cover directly? In which case it would be easy to see how that could be removable easily with no risk....

The F430 attenuator fastenings are independent of the rear cover fastenings.

As an aside, will the F430 end plate go onto the 360 'box, Julian? Looks like you could save some weight...

Yes Mark I think it might and like a flipping idiot I used the wrong loctite on the four reverse retention screws inside the back cover the other day. I don't know how I did it but I was working with loctite 243 rather than 2701. I only realised when I put the bottle back on the shelf - one is green label the other is blue!! What an idiot I am!

Now I can't settle knowing that those four bolts aren't secured with the correct juice and it's gonna be VERY expensive if they come out inside the gearbox! So that back cover needs to come off so potentially I could swap it out. Have you a spare cover you can help me with Mark?

Damn, but at least you spotted it before it all went back in!

Afraid I only have a complete 'box that I don't really want to start stripping, though I can help you with measurements; If you give me until the end of next week I can confirm the fastening locations.

Thanks, all. I am interested in removing the logo. One of these days I will have to figure how to get to it. If it is painted, like a suspect, I will repaint it, but hopefully, it is just a sticker.
