I am a new F Car owner and to say that I am an enthusiast is a bit of an understatement. I have even started a new Ferrari accessories business, so I am serious about Ferrari marque.

My question is this, why when I read in Prancing Horse or any other publication concerning Ferrari, that nearly every event is centered around golf? I know that golf is a religion for some people, but I really could care less about golf, and would prefer that Ferrari events take place at tracks and great scenic locals... not golf courses. Am I in the minority?

Because people who belong to a nice country club can afford a Ferrari.

If you are a sales guy and need to find "rich people" to sell to, the first place to look is usually the nicest golf club in town. If you are a true Ferrari lover already, you don't need to be "sold"... if you want one you will go to the dealership and buy one. The old rich guys at (some) golf courses have so much money lying around that just because they might not be a "car guy" doesn't mean that a good salesmen can't convince them to buy one.

One thing I have learned from reading F-Chat for a while is that most guys that are true "car guys" are not really "golf guys" and vise versa... I so happen to love both.

    :)

What kind of events ? I have never seen a ferrari event mixed with golfs other than cars being exposed on a parcours.

I'm not sure about Ferrari, but every time a new model Bentley, RR, Lambo, Skyker, even the Veyron was introduced, Symbolic Motors in San Diego is always at my dad's club for a private viewing and test drives. Most of the guys up there are too old to mess around with Ferrari's, but the parking lot looks mostly like Bentley dealership.

For example, here is a link to a Mid-Atlantic area FCA golf event for charity:

You should add your website address to your profile. As you probably are aware, blatant advertising of your stuff on fchat is frowned upon, but adding your URL to your profile is fairly typical (and makes it easy for us shoppers to see what you're offering).

I like your idea about track locations. Not all of us have tracks nearby, though.

'Scenic locales' often means country clubs, just because you have wide open landscaped spaces with lots of parking and catering. FWIW, I've been to some great FCA/FOC events at upscale shopping areas north of Phoenix and in San Diego, also at a private estate and a park here in San Diego.

You are right, though, it's ironic: Ferraris are loud and fast and need pavement. Golf is dead silent, slow and played off on a lawn somewhere in bad plaid pants. ;)

I might take exception to the too old to mess around with Ferraris its probably a little bit of a generalisation and I would imagine there are a few old guys on this bord own several Ferraris

Easy - whatever you want to promote will be perceived as even more exciting when paired with something as innately boring as golf. The real event will shine in comparison, while appealing to the wealth-image associated with a tournament sport. It's the part of the event where even the biggest idiot can brashly get drunk in the open while herding a motorized cart around a field, dressed in atrocities his wife thought she snuck out in the trash years ago.

As you might guess, I'm not a big fan of chasing a white ball around a cow pasture with a stick, trying to knock it into a gopher hole with another stick.

I too have noticed this. Both most recent FCA-SE events are centered around golf. While I am not a FCA member, I have heard other Ferrari owners complaining about it. Oh well, golf is not my cup of tea, I guess you will soon need a handicap before you are accepted in FCA. Ha haaaaaaa!

I too find nothing appealing about golf. When I graduated from law school I tried to learn to like it...I took lessons, went to the driving range, had custom clubs made, but still hated it...I had more fun driving the golf cart that playing the game...I prefer track events, concours, SCUBA, sailing, travel, ect... I have always mused that the Scots should have invented Whiskey after they invented Golf so that you could console oneself. In fairness there are several hobbies that require some imagination to appreciate them take a bunch of guys ( of which I would be one ) wondering around in the hot sun with automobile apparrel on muttering option lists and HP numbers in some foreign language looking to see if the original numbers are correct on a car and paying major bucks to have the thing then to maintain it so that it can sit and avoid getting miles on it. This makes golf even look sensibile?

What a bunch of W_H_I_N_E_R_S. If you don't like what the FCA is setting-up for events, get off your butt and plan your OWN event, around your OWN interests, and advertise it in the FCA bulletin. If you're a dues-paying member, its your club too. Put on a Ferrari event at your next Star-Trek/X-Box convention, and tell the rest of us how the turnout was.....

I've been in FCA, off-and-on, since 1996. FINALLY there are some events that involve Golf and Ferrari - there weren't before, although the association between Ferrari and the sport of Golf has been linked for quite some time - you don't honestly think the luggage compartment of 308/328 model matching the dimensions of a standard, full-size golf bag are purely coincidence, do you? Both Ferrari Idea/Schedoni and Pininfarina both made leather and nylon Golf bags for Ferrari cars......

Most Ferrari owners will never venture near a track. Like SUV owners who never venture off-road.
I personally can't understand it, but when you read threads about marks on the leather, or tiny rock chips, or obsessive behavior of dusting the car down every time it used and putting the cover on it, or limiting your driving to keep the mileage down, it all points to owners terrified to drive their cars, let alone drive them hard on a track. Those kinds of owners or prospective owners are perfectly suited to events at a country club rather than a track.

    Yes exactly.

Plus I'm sure Ferrari dealerships don't want their new cars getting torn up on a race track for "test drives" before they are sold.

Here on FerrariChat many of the owners are true enthusiasts and enjoy tracking their car... however I bet that makes up a small percentage of the people who are buying new Ferrari's these days. Most owners (like my dad, unfortunately) drive the car back and forth the golf course and to a restaurant every now and then, and that’s about it.

That's a good idea, but only in certain parts of the country. Golf courses are everywhere.
