    -Hope for nice weather...
-Hope for the wind to remain below my minimums, alternating with...
-Hoping the wind will increase to clear the Ovcst...
    -Drive home pretending I'm taxiing...
-Hope that maybe next weekend.......good Wx, & wind < my minimums
    -sigh
-Watch videos, ( have an extensive library at my flight school)
-study "Flight Tech" written test audio tapes
    -read a little "Jeppeson"
    -Read a little "Gleim"
    -Read a little "AOPA Pilot"
-Go to "privatepilotexam.com" take another test
( doing the high 80's without the charting [poor resolution] questions)
    -sigh...
    -Repeat next week
    -Repeat
    -Repeat.............

Actually weather here (my minimums that is) has been the pits!
But that's the Jersey coast, in winter.

First starting out, I went for an 1 hour flight/week with Instr.
and many hours of self taught ground.

Since I've solo'd, I now try to fly 2 hours a week minimum.
Sometimes that turns out, to be 4 flights of .5 hrs each.
I also hitch rides with other students, and pilots.
Good practice, for preflighting, for weather info gathering,
    and freezing the butt off.
Yeah..... winds AND low temps [-4 C to -12 C today] = potential Frostbite!
{wind chill factor, in the negative, single digits } read "colder than a witches....___"

RFKing, stated in another thread, that: "He didn't know how people these days could afford to learn to fly."

    It's not easy!

My current method is "find new place to train because my flight school restructured their insurance and can no longer allow students to rent airplanes." I think I'm just going to say screw it and buy a Cherokee or something else that's relatively inexpensive to finish up in. It will be good to not have to rent during instrument training anyway. Then I can start working on getting 1,000 hours/500 PIC so I can start training for jet warbirds! Then, I'll go broke. :)

My goal is to fly on Friday afternoon, and on Saturday/Sunday mornings.

Then I have a Ground School class on Wed nights.

Weather here in Boston really mess's with these dates. I have yet to have 3 flights in a week. Ground school was even canceled on Wed night due to weather.

FLYING IN SOME PROBABLY SIGNIFICANT X-WINDS

Yep, lot of cross winds, I have about 12 hours logs with the last 3 just working on landings. Can't get them down. So far I have worked on landings at 4 airports. My airport (3b3) has a great runway, 40 feet wide, with 30-40 foot pine trees running alone side the run way, and tress at the ends. Shoot a plane clipped the top 3 feet of one tree on final last weekend.

I try to do as many landings as possible when I practice.
To me that's the biggest thrill .........after taking off of course....
I practice on two runways, 14/32 and 3/21.
The main (14/32) is 100 ft wide, and 7,300 feet long.
    The other one 3,707 x 50 ft.

My goal is precision. Putting her down EXACTLY where I want her. Not just aiming for center, and hoping, some day she'll touch down .....someplace...;)

So far, I've logged over 200 landings. with about 20 precisely where I decided.
The majority tho, are within 100 ft of target, with a couple of balloonings due to gusts, that fouled my record.

Oh what a time I had with crosswinds! Couldn't get the timing to kick out from a crab.... Couldn't line up on center...

    Problem was...
    My concept of doing something.
I had thought that as long as the rwy was ahead of me all was fine, and I would just fly towards it. I see that I'm drifting to one side, and bam! the Instr, would correct. Now I wasn't aware of just exactly what he did, and by the time I formulated a question.... Yep! I was drifting again.

I took some time, going up with another Instr, and he taught me the use of rudder to remain centered. Suddenly... I was remaining centered!!!
(still had to work on the timing tho) :) :) :)

My problem is timing of coming out of the crab for touch down. I keep coming out to early and there is not much room to drift on a 40 feet wide runway.

My goal right now is to land on my own, I'll work on spot landings later.
