So out of a collection you own, of watches you have actually spent dearly departed dollars on, which watch do you love the most, the watch you will not sell until the very bitter end and only if forced to. I’m not talking about dream watches, or “grail watches” that you have seen pictures of or read about. I’m talking about watches you have ownership experience with; a watch you wear on your wrist that you love so much you can’t see departing with it—you’ll leave it to one of your kids. This watch goes in the ground with you, or your estate, screw the rest.

For me it is my Patek 5205G, Annual Calendar in white gold with blue dial. I just find it mesmerizing, and I can stare at it for endless minutes while the world moves about me.

Below is a crappy picture of it on my wrist with an iPhone preceded by two stock photos off the internet done by a professional which has much better quality :).

To answer in this thread you MUST post a photo (well, because you own it).
If you own one watch and that is your love then that counts, you don’t actually have to have a “collection.”
NO answers that include more than one watch allowed. I hate that. “Which is your number one single only solitary favorite Ferrari?” And then people answer with their top five.
One watch, single, solitary, uno, by itself, not two or more..the last final watch that will either be buried with you of left for a loved one...all others sold off. Understood?
Certainly over time as collections grow or circumstances improve one might be tempted to say that “this is the one I’m waiting for...this is my future one and only.” Great...that is for a different thread; because, you know, unfortunately, life may not financially improve, and this is it...this is for the watch you own today: Sunday, January 23rd, 2022. :)

    Omega 125.

I have had it since 1975 and wore it continuously 27/4 for a few decades until it wore out. One day I should restore it.

    It is my favourite.

That would be really, really tough - I love them all and they all commemorate a significant point/event in my life - But if push came to shove as your post lays out and articulates I would have to keep my 116520 Daytona.

BTW your Patek is absolutely gorgeous - Don't know your collection but can understand that one being the "dead guy" watch - Cheers :)

It is very very difficult for sure! I have a Patek Nautilus annual calendar but like the dress watch better.
Your Daytona is spectacular (photo notwithstanding:)).

Still have the watch my mom bought me when I turned 16. And I have the watch I gave to my grandpa for his 80th birthday that he wore every single day until he passed away. And I have my great-grandfathers pocket watch. All of those are very special to me and I will own them forever.

Interesting on the first post . . . if I had a watch like that, I'd make sure I knew how to set the date.

But the answer is this . . . I am taking NO WATCH to my grave. I had a friend whose buried him wearing his Panerai and wedding ring. As executor of his estate, I went to the funeral director and asked him to remove the ring and watch before he closed the casket--and he informed me that the wife wanted him buried with these.

A week later, the wife found out she was pregnant and it was a boy. She now wonders if she can exhume the body to get the watch for her son.

The watch I will never sell is not my most expensive--it is a Rolex GMT II.

All of my watches, and I have a good number, will be left to my family.

I literally just got this yesterday and it is my current “dead guy watch” and will someday be passed on to my son. Excuse the poor iPhone photo, but I’m in the back of a Lyft as I just dropped off my vintage Mustang at the shop and need a ride home! Image Unavailable, Please Login

WTF are talking about the date? That picture is from a few years ago when I got the watch. 2019...do the math. Maybe then you’ll be able to figure out how to set the date. So, to prove my point...your “dead guy watch” is your GMT II. I never said it should be your most expensive. Jesus. My 5205 is not my most expensive watch.

My Dad bought it new in 1965. He wore it everyday and sent it back to Heuer years ago to be restored. He passed his passion for chronographs (and Ferrari's and Porsche's too) onto my brother and me. It will never leave our family.

Dude, it was a joke. Lighten up Francis. Or try decaf.

But if you are going to "lecture us about doing the math" then I offer the following:

In 2019, March 18 was on a Monday, in 2020 March 18 was on a Wednesday and in 2021 it was on a Thursday. So if you bought this watch in 2019, it is a fair comment that it is set to the wrong date.

My watches often get out of date. And sometimes when I go days without wearing a certain watch, I put it on and don't bother to set the time immediately. I wear it for a while. On those days, I use my phone for a watch when I need to know the time. The watch is just my own personal way of being old school.

My watch is set to October. The two stock photos are off the internet as I mentioned in my post. The watch manufacturers always use March 18th for some reason in their promo photos, perhaps they like the graphics best. Also note the full moon was Sunday, Oct 13th in 2019 and the moon phase is therefore also correct. As is the time, because ya know, that is the time I took the photo. :)
Now please...back to the topic at hand.
(btw...saying something like “...if I had a watch like that, I’d make sure I KNEW how to set the date” is just plain rude. “Joking” would be to say “hey, too busy in the morning to set the date?” Accompanied by a :). You’ve been on forums long enough to know that simple decorum.)

    I don't use emojis.

    I often use sarcasm.

Not all manufacturers use March 18 in promo photos.

And I say again, it was a joke.
