Ok Gang - I am a new to Ferrari's and more specifically to the different race modes on my F1 F430. I cannot wait to take the $10K driving class but until then let's talk shop.

Ice "Snow" Mode - Ouch fully automatic. Shifts are too jerky and never revs above 3.5K. The Good News is driving in this mode is the worst you can look in an F430.

Low Grip "Rain" Mode - Whatever. I think I have been it in once. It is basically snow mode but I get to shift. Oh boy. I think the dealer put me in this mode and sent me off.

Sport "Fun but not too dangerous" Mode - The dealer said don't ever go into this mode until I have formal classes. That lasted a week. This mode is fun, but I thought you could never break the back end in this mode. Sure enough, one cold day, while passing a car on a curvy two lane road behind Target and the old Pacific Bell Headquarters in San Ramon, the back end slid to the left as I got on the gas during the pass. Amazingly, while looking at the on coming car, I let off the gas, regained control (thank you Ferrari) then punched it again and had tons of time before the on coming car reached where I was. Sport mode cased me some sweat for the first time after owning the car for 6 months.

Race "Bat out of Hell" Mode - This mode makes the car sound and respond just right. Perfect on hot sunny days with no off camber turns. I love this mode on the highways.

CST "No Traction Control" Mode - Ok I am truly scared of this mode.

I was a stop sign on by my house late one night and it was just me and the moon above my head and I thought what the hell it is time you grow up and take off the training wheels. I switched it into CST and the car makes that alarming beep noise, letting you know you are on your own now kid.

I grabbed the steering wheel tight with both hands and I began to lay into the gas pedal, I heard a roar coming from the back of my head that I never heard before; pressure in the engine building and building. Keep in mind this is happening in milliseconds. As this is happening I freak out, being the engineer that I am, I begin thinking 60MPH in 3.5 seconds, 120MPH in 11 seconds and I am looking at the four lane road ahead of me; it was not straight.

By this time it is too late, the F430 jumps forward like a cheetah 10-20 feet, I wimp out and let off all gas. The car goes into convolutions telling me don't frick'n stop in the middle of that ever again. I have driven Vipers, Late model Corvettes, etc.. but nothing ever felt like this. I was being launch into outer space.

Who drives in this mode on the street? Make sure you stay way from me.

    Now for a fun poll.

Can't vote on your pole, but thanks for sharing your experience! Almost makes me want to get a 430 so I can have a manettino to play with :)

Sport most of the time. Also, there's something about having a setting labelled "race" that always puts a smile on my face.

I've looked, but I still can't find the "comfort" setting. Oh wait, that's in the BMW. And if conditions are so bad outside that you have to put your car into a mode that starts in second, is fully automatic and shifts way early, leave the Ferrari in the garage and take the SUV.

I don't have any experience yet with CST off, but I'm willing to bet the car is a lot more predictable than most cars with their stability control off. I drove an M6 for two years and turning off the stability control was a scary thing.

Race mode all the time. When I took my 07 430 in for the one year service, I had the service guys quicken the clutch let out. Man, what a difference!!! I absolutely love this car. My wife is really worried about me!!

I drive a manual F430 there is no reason to fear the CST mode off; let your hands and ass feel the road, YOU drive the car, don't let it drive you!
I used to have a Porsche turbo OMG what a boring car to drive.
I then had a Noble M400, there is no electronic help available here PERIOD. I guarantee if you own a Noble for a while you will become a better driver. At circa 400 bhp per tonne, no anti-lock brakes or Traction control the car demands the utmost respect.
The Ferrari is a P*U*S*S*Y compared.
