I'm moving in a couple of weeks and starting to pack things. As I go through my clothing, books, etc, I find myself not being able to throw out certain items either due to sentimental value or just the fact where I think that I may need that item in the future (I have a ton of computer books and since I do consulting, I also worry I might need that COBOL book down the road).

So, what items/junk/stuff/etc is taking up space but you find yourself not being able to throw it out.

T Shirts! With the exception of plain white ones, they all have a story.

Jeans, too, to a lesser extent. I had one pair of jeans that I wore until they totally disintigrated.

Old ticket stubs and stuff. Each concert or game or event has some special meaning to me. Post cards, I have a box full of them.

Motorcycle magazines. I have virtually every one I bought/subscribed for the last 20 years. Probably over 500.

You just never know when the mood will hit to read about a 1991 907 Paso, or a 1987 CR250.

    ...from Fortune Cookies, that is.

Cables, Jacks, Plugs, Wires. Just can't do it. Too many "what if's."

I was pondering chucking some torn and frayed blue jeans last week. Didn't happen. They don't even fit. "What if."

I got brave and no longer have 1/20 the T-Shirts I had a year ago. But the 2-sizes-too-small Johnny Rotten shirt stays, as does the practice Track Team T-Shirt from my alma mater. It's just over 30 years old. Good, thick stock, sleeves got chopped long ago, though. There's this one shirt I've got hidden away at my folks place - remember when mesh shirts - (like football players) first started hitting retailer shelves in '71? Still got it.

Also up thereabouts is a Pioneer Supertuner underdash cassette player circa '77 - round dial - FM only. Savin' that for a ride that's just screamin' for it. My old friend's'll freak.

Same here...but i dont mind that since they don't take up much room. I have several years of Guitar Player magazines that I could never toss. Certain t-shirts, especially from a concert, I cannot throw out. I also have a lot of cd's, some that I will probably never listen to again, but I just can't put them in the garbage.

To add to this thread, what did you ever lose during moving/packing and never found and it drove you crazy?

Old cell phones and other electronics. Most of them don't work but I still have them. I've got a box full of old analog cell phones. I wish I could get service for them. My 3 watt phone would work everywhere.

I guess all that stuff was expensive at the time so I don't want to throw it away.

An envelope containing four tickets to Nolan Ryan's 5th no-hitter at the Astrodome in 1981. A great-uncle gave them to me, he had season tickets but chose to watch that particular game at home on TV. He held onto the tickets since they were pseudo souveniers and he gave them to me shortly before he passed. I moved, and didn't find the envelope for 5 years. I thought for certain they had been inadvertently thrown away, but found them in the only box that had remained unpacked!

Car memrobilia (sp?), magazines, automotive brochures (never know when I'll need info on that 1995 Ford Mustang). That's about it, tho. Everything else, I pretty much throw away....unless it has some significant sentimental value. I do keep ticket stubs. *nods* I'm such a pack rat.

    My R&T and EVO magazines.

I also have Legos that I can't part with. To many hours spent with those things when I was little to just throw them out, or even sell them.

I used to keep movie ticket stubs but then months later I would see them and wonder why I still have them. I throw them out now.

Anyone remember the Hardy Boys? I have most of those books. Can't part with those either. They are way below my reading level but I love them.

I am obsessed with taking loads to the dumps, so anything not fixable, gets tossed. No boxes of mystery a/c adapters or old paint cans or excess scheisse for me.
