I've been reading about all the different types of coolants out on the market. Specifically, how some coolants contain phosphates. Additionally, how improper coolants adversely affect the aluminum engines. I'm curious what coolant ranks well. The G-48 coolants look like they are a good choice for aluminum engines.

    Ciao,

Ethylene glycol based containing silicate. Silicate is the aluminum corrosion inhibitor. Use distilled water to make your 50% mix (softened water is okay as well) or buy the 50% mix already prepared. Put it in, bleed the system and enjoy driving!

So far so good, Zerex G-05 [made by Valvoline I believe - looks to be a new packaging from them] is G-48 compatible and approved by MB & BMW. Of course nothing other than distilled water for our Italian relatives. Thanks guys! :)

    Ciao,
    George
