My 328 continually does a good impression of a snow plow. Even at relatively slow speeds, the front keep grounding if there's any bumpiness on the road at all. I've noted that the front end on my car seems lower than most 328, but want to verify.

What's the distance between the ground and the center bottom of the front spoiler on your 328?

If it does turn out that I'm significantly lower, what could be the cause? As far as I can tell from the service records, the springs are still stock on the car.

Not sure about your ride height specs there mate. But if your car still has the stock springs. Then that may be the issue, all dependant on car condition/miles and age of the car. When cars are new, the new springs 'sag' and settle over the 1st couple of weeks driving the car. Very minimal actually. As cars/springs continually get older, they still continue to 'sag' more as the spring steel softens over time. Again very minimal. Can you check out the springs in the car and see if the coils have been binding or touching? Maybe you should remove 1 front spring and 1 rear spring from the same side and measure the compressed height of the spring on the strut and then remove the spring from the strut and then measure the free height again. Compare your results to new springs and that will tell you exactly if they have sagged mate. I know its a big job, but its the only way to measure them properly. You can even send them away to a spring shop to measure the 'rate' they are at now. :)

It sounds like your car has either been lowered, or the stock springs are sagging, which is not uncommon for a car of that age -- certainly if it has high mileage, or heavy things have been kept in the car while sitting.

My 328 is being painted right now, so I can't give you an exact measurement. What I can tell you is that my 2002 Corvette has about 4.5 inches ground-to-valance, and the 328 has much more clearance.

If you're below five or six inches, I'd guess your springs are in need of replacement.

Mine is 5.5 inches too. I constantly bottoming out. Most of it is caused by the huge overhang. The vette being 4.5 inches probably bottoms out less then the Ferrrai because it does not have that huge overhang. You can increase the tire pressure (a little) and it may help (a little).
PS. I want to cry everytime I hear that noise!

Ok, that's cleared up -- mine's also ~5 1/2 @ the front lip. Thanks guys

So....soft springs @ 93,000+ miles maybe? Or is everyone simply crashing over the bumps and gritting their teeth?

Those springs may be getting softer, suspension componets, etc... Mine doesn't bottom out at all

I lowered my Boxer intentionally. In fact, every car I have had since I was 18 has been lowered to road racing specs. You just have to get used to driving it accordingly. If it is older springs, then changing them will correct your problem, but then if it were, me, I would end up lowering it anyway. The car just looks better that way.

    Mine measures about 6.5 inches.

I have deliberately lowered the number plate below that of the front low member so that the number plate scraps before that member of the car and I know to back off.

mine is just under 4" in the yellow measurement. what tire pressure do you run in the fronts? have you tried driving without the spare tire?

Mine bottoms out, not at the front spoilers, but at the section just underneath the A/C cooling fan and area around where the battery is. rarely do i scrape the front spoiler.
