I was hooked after playing Need For Speed High Stakes. lol
This movie http://www.amazon.com/Your-Wildest-Dreams-Trevor-Black/dp/B0001UNX6M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1227401201&sr=8-1 and soon after that I saw Cannonball Run for the first time.
When I was 5, I remember a Daytona Spider owned by a Doctor across the street from my uncle's home. The sound of the car was something I'd never heard, so much power to a sweet exhaust note & smell of the leather interior, the craftsmanship was mesmerizing to me. Ive been addicted ever since.
I wish I could tell ya, but I can't remember a time in my life when I wasn't in love with them. Could it be genetic?
In second grade I found a book on motor racing that spotlighted the crash at Indy in 1964, and became hooked on that kind of racing. I didnt know who or what Ferrari was yet, but I could formulate in my mind the idea that somewhere in the world someone was building race cars on what we would refer to today as the cutting edge. I recognised Ferrari as that someone by the time I was 9 or 10. Before I was 13 I would imagine driving cars with tiny V-12's with a gaggle of Webers and a 5 speed gearboxes. When all the other kids made low RPM Harley or big V-8 engine sounds, my engine sounds were usually higher pitched and covered a wider RPM band. They all thought I had no idea what real cars sounded like. When the 308 was unveiled I became infatuated.
It's something you are born with I fell in love with them when I first saw one, a yellow 77 308 GTB. The difference between me (and others here) and someone else is we never forget that first impression and we still feel the same decades later. It's been 27 years for me since that day and I still feel the same when I see one somewhere.
It was this guy's fault !!!! After seeing it on Magnum PI and in person at an auto show in the 80's , I knew that someday, I'd have to own one. It was the most beautiful car I had ever seen, at that time. Three years ago I bought mine. (Identical to Magnums) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Old black & white pictures like this one probably helped some ... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=844365&stc=1&d=1227410052 And think how many new young male fans of Ferraris cars are being created by pictures like this one: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=138212567#post138212567 .
I can't remember any specific time or place I fell in love with them. For as long as I can remember I have been.
Sitting in my friends fathers' Dino 246, we both contemplated taking it for a spin, the motor was running. We almost left, but we both also knew his father would hunt us down and skin us alive if we did. The sound of the motor and exhaust was intoxicating and sitting so low was amazing
As a youth, was brought to a friends house with a new 308GTS sitting in the garage, the shape of that car was out of this world, the smell of new leather while sitting in the drivers seat.. from that day on, Ferrari would be my most sought after car.
Gee, I must be the old guy in the group. I got hooked when I saw a new 330 GTC at Road Americe back in the 60's at the RA 500. I knew then that I wanted a Ferrari some day. It took another 20 years or so, but I did it.
MS and F1...also having built a whole lot of them for customers [in 1/43 scale]. But I think it came to fruition when I inhaled a bit too much FER300 paint! Then I purchased a 308 and now it's the pure sound of the F 8 cylinder motor at full song...nothing comes close [for me at least].
When I was a kid, my father's car magazines were always laying all over the house. Road & Track, Car and Driver, Motor Trend, etc. He also occasionally stopped at some dealership in Yonkers or Westchester. I don't remember the name of it, or where it is, but I think it's still open. I remember getting out of the car whenever he stopped there (always when they were closed) and looking through the glass at some stunning automobiles. My Hot Wheels and Matchbox collection also helped foster a deep love. But Ferraris always stood out among all of the cars; in the magazines, at the dealership and with my toys. I can't pinpoint when or where it happened, but I can't remember discovering Ferraris or my love for them. It's just been always.
Ha ha. Me too! Giltraps up on the coast. That huge white exhaust pipe running down it's side sucked me in.
Have LOVED them as far back as I can remember!! When Miami Vice hit TV, I *knew* I was going to own a Ferrari one day.
I was driving past an auto body shop about 20 years ago and saw just a body of a car, sitting on rollers in front. It was a 250 GTO, but I didn't know it at the time. there was no paint on it, just primer and new metal, but the shape was just beautiful. I was hooked.
Very cool Brad!! With the way the Ferrari car market is headed, you could possibly have a 250 GTO in your garage very soon mate.
