Three sounds about right. But the cars have to be somewhat signifigant. You can't call a Mazda 6, a BMW 3-series, and a Mustang a collection, or my family would have a "collection". OTOH if someone had a Bentley GTC, a Porsche CGT, and a Ferrari 275 GTB/4, you could call that a collection.

or at least interesting for some reason (if only to the owner!) rather than just being daily transport/utility type vehicles

I would say at least three cars that aren't your daily drivers or work vehicles.

I know people who collect VW Beetles and those aren't exotic but it is still a collection.

My Rx7 isn't a daily driver(engine being ported). I need to buy a couple more for my collection, lol. There is another guy locally who has abuot 6-8 Rx-3 in either mint or heavily modified, I would definately call his a rotary collection.

Sorry, but I don't see 3 cars as a 'collection' even if one of the cars is an exotic.

A collection starts when you are able to realize the dream for a group of cars you are passionate about... be it old Lincolns, VW's, or a thoroughly modern smörgåsbords of exotic cars. How many constitutes a collection? 3 cars could, but 3 that are not of what would be the normal use stable mates, SUV/ Minivan/ Truck/ daily driver etc. etc.

When you don't know exactly how many you have, it's a collection!

I would say when you have 1-2 daily drivers, and then 3 which are of other status then daily driver.
