This question has been milling around in my head for some time. I had just bought my first Ferrari and was asked by another dealer, had I bonded with the car if not would I like to sell it. The question got me thinking, Ive had 30 plus cars, but what was it that made me bond with a car. It taken me quite some time to work this work out what makes me "bond" with a car, and I have finally come to the realisation it is only after I put a lot of work and time, restoring or sorting a car and getting to know it other than how it drives. do derive an attachment to it. There by is the question what makes you bond with a car.
So have you bonded with the 456? I find it is instant with me, probably lust, lol. Eventually it wears off, especially after I've stopped throwing money at it, sorting, buying luggage etc lol, usually in 5-7 years and then I move on to the next Ferrari and start all over again
nothing - they're inanimate objects which deliver occasional pleasure. Part of my problem is living in inner Sydney, where traffic, parking and revenue cameras constrain how you enjoy a car. I spend more time in Ubers than in my own cars. I have bonded with my dog however and Greg is very fond of his goat
To awnser you question, sort off, I was very excited when i bought the car. But $$$$$$$$ later fixing valve guides. Nearly bought the glue unstuck bigtime. Shrunken leather sticky bits. Fuel pump mounts. And now have the roof lining out as the glue let go...quality isnt a Ferrari strong point. Sent from my SM-G935F using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Understand. It gets to a point where after a certain amount of $$$$$ it just becomes painful especially if the value of the car is going nowhere
Yes, 456's are well known for silly quality issues, but once sorted, they're great cars. I have been amazed with my 575, apart from the F1 problems inflicted by Goober's mechanics, nothing goes wrong with it. No sticky button issues either.
Ive been trying to get a quote from Ferrari Brisbane to fix my headlining with no success. Mine has let go, any idea of costs to replace Graeme ?
My attention span for women is 2 years ............ a lot of regrets though, some I should have stuck with I'm much better at cars for long term relationships
I didn’t replace mine, I removed the two sections and had a trimmer rebound them with a professional glue that was sprayed on. There are threads in the 456 section on how to remove them, PM me if you want help.
I’ve no idea what it is, but there have definitely been some cars I’ve been sad to see go (including some surprising ones), and some I couldn’t wait to see the back of. Same can be said of aircraft, actually... In terms of the Ferrari I can’t imagine ever selling it (which is just as well as it’s apparently sale-proof), but I have definitely bonded with it in some way. It does give a lot of pleasure, even when not driving it (which is again just as well as over the last 18 months I’ve hardly driven it). To be completely honest, I think I’ve got as much pleasure just from owning and looking at it as I have driving it. And that is the only car I can say that about.
Hi Jon, It has let go in that one section, foam is perished too. It is a cloth material but I would be happy with leather if need be. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Stick with the cloth,as leather is heavy and will only come unstuck again, and they stick the leather straight to the skin no foam However If you want to change it to something more fitting Alcantara but don't tell any one as you wont here the last of it. I like Ian, like to if we do part with our cars in better condition then we bought them.
The only cars I bonded with were the ones I shagged chics in. My most epic car of the lot was VL Calais Turbo some 25 odd years ago. Loved it, was an extension of me. These days I don't bond with any of my cars. My daily drivers are leased and flipped every 2-3 years. My current 360 is meh. Nice garage art. Sydney is such a sh*thole to drive in nowadays. Traffic is horrendous, the roads are just not fun.
To Bring back your love , go and do some fully sic burnouts at Bankstown McDonald's in the 360.......Then meet Greg at the glory hole in Auburn.......
Thanks Graeme, I like the cloth. do you know the process ? Do they keep the original cloth, replace the foam and re-glue the cloth ?
