And what skill level would you classify yourself as? I took piano lessons eons ago, but never had the discipline to stick with it. Then I picked up playing the trumpet in 5th grade and was 1st chair all the way into 11th grade when I stopped playing. Never practiced a lick, but now that I actually am older I am going to pick it back up. Kinda strange, in highschool I played golf 6 days a week and got to a 3-4 handicap. Yet nowadays I don't play often, but when I do I have the same skill level kicking in, which makes me think that playing this instrument again will come pretty easily, with quick improvement. It's gonna be fun! Currently in the market for a great Bach Strad LT180-43 (lightweight, great for jazz). So where do you stand in your musical expression these days?
Bass mainly and some guitar. I have a six, five and this week I'll have a four string. It's been a good 11 years since I've played a four string. I'm 32, and have been playing since I was about 14 or 15, been in a handful of small bands from high school through college and jazz band in high school as well. I don't consider myself heavily advanced, but more of a groove artist than a technical player. Joined up with a band a week ago and will be gigging in a few months after the others finish up various travels for business. I tried piano several times, and I just didn't have the motivation to keep it up.
i play the guitar, have a fender strat and have been playing for 20 yrs. the skill level ???- well, did you ever hear of eddie vanhalen ?? im not as good as him, hell not even close. but im ok, i can definately jam.
why do you feel it necessary to bring up your sweet golf skills in every thread. Some of our feelings are easily hurt. I can play a couple songs on bass, not much after that.
Not a big instument guy, more focused on athletics. One of my friends did try to teach me guitar once, but I didnt seem to pick it up (even though I only tried like 2 times). So I would say on a scale of 1-10 of my guitar skill, i would rank as a .34 I would really like to learn though.
I play the guitar. My skills are not great but I'be been playing for 25 yrs. on a scale from 1 to 10 I would say I'm a 5 1/2.
I played alto sax for about 8 years. I put it away years ago. I would love to get back into playing on a soprano.
guitar but atrocious at best...and illiterate at reading music. would love to be able to play the piano. my children adam and erin, can listen to a song twice and sit down at a piano and play it note for note like billy joe....it's so unfair. needless to say, they both inherite their musical skill from mom who is an accomplished classical pianist
hmmmm when i read that it brought up an intresting question in my head. Is it possible to inherit talents like that. OR maybe is it due to the children hearing the music in the womb. hmmm lifes mysteries
good god...if that's true, it's doubtful my mom ever pushed play once during her preg. because although i love music, i suck aweful at all instruments.
Musicality and the ability to process it is definitely a trait that can be inherited. Look at the Marsalis bros!
I took piano lessons for 5 years when I was younger. Started drum lessons at the same time. Took drum lessons for 6 years. I stopped playing the piano after those 5 years, but I have continued to play the drums. Starting at age 6, and now being 21, I have approximately 15 years of experience under my belt. I would say that I'm slightly better than average. It takes me a long time to read music, but being raised in a musical family, I have a feel for it. I play by ear. I've played in jazz band (hs), marching band (hs), a Black Gospel group, 2 rock groups, and have been playing for the churches that I've attended consistently over the last 7 years. As far as overall music knowledge, I know basic chord progressions. I can sit down at a piano and figure out the melody line to a song. I'm trying to pick up guitar and bass, but....that's not going so well right now.
Guitar player. I've been told I sound like Joe Satriani, but my music has many influences. I am currently working on my 2nd album. You can hear some songs from my current release at: www.theguitardude.com I started my own business ( www.screentimeimages.com ) so someday I could step back and play guitar all day long and promote the music, but I find myself working harder for myself than I ever did for anybody else! Of course my company does real satisfying and rewarding work, so I can't complain too hard, I would just like to get to play more.
Guitar, bass, vocals and a bit of drums: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/gen11 ....none of them all that well.
I play the classical guitar. I took lessons from the age of 5 until I went off to university. Did the Royal Conservatory of Music test. I recorded on a couple of compilation albums while university (with the muscians' club on campus) and was exec. producer of the album in my final year there.
What instrument do I play? All of them! Garritan Personal Orchestra & other plug-ins + Pro Tools LE + Digi 002 + Finale 2005. Skill level? Blissfully low.
