Just had the display cases moved up to my office. After returning the models to their previous positions in the case, I noted a gap to fill for the newer cars. Something just the right size for a new 1/18 diecast. So I picked-up a Mattel FXX and was disappointed to see the car mounted on a cardboard base. When did they switch? Up to now, all of the 1/18 Hot Wheels I've bought came on model-specific plastic bases. I needed a plastic base so the car is level with the others in line, nose-to-tail.

If you also would prefer to display your Mattel FXX on a pedestal or base similar to your other cars, here's the solution: the base for the Mattel 1/18 360 Challenge Stradale is generic. It doesn't have the model name on it. It worked perfectly! The display cases are 6' x 6'. Pain in the azz to move up a flight of stairs!

The non Elite versions never came with a base.

Haven't had the opportunity to compare the different versions in person. A search of eBay found a nice variety. Check out the carbon-fiber base on the FXX priced around $200. Pretty cool but I would rather invest the price difference in another model.

I'll eventually post a picture of both cases after they are stocked up. Ultimately, after maybe a decade or two, one case will house competition cars, the other case...roadcars.
For now, a place to display and protect my dad's three Pochers (1903 GP Fiat; Alfa Monza 2800 and a Mercedes 540K).
