I am going to join the site today.. I enjoy it, and it has been a great source of information...

The one thing I have noticed about this site is no one has a signature with what cars they own. Or is that because I have not yet joined that I cannot see the signatures?

I have always felt it was helpful to know what cars people own when reading posts. It clarifies what their experiences are...

As I spend more time on this site, it seems that a good number of people do not even own a Ferrari....

Any insight from the experts, the multiple posters, or guys that have been around longer than me would be helpful.

Many owners put the information in the Profile Info, but past a certain point most big collectors become discreet..

I have three early 308GTBs and enough die cast models to be a Museum, history books to match...
I think my Family has an intervention scheduled, once they get all my funds locked down.......;)

My cover is already blown, by being published several places.

To answer your question is difficult as there are a high percentage of Nonowners here, but then many have multiple Ferraris. I don't know that Rob Lay has run the statistics........

To see a person's profile (which includes a list of the cars they own), click on that person's username and then click the link to view their profile.

There are plenty of owners and well as non-owners. (I don't own a Ferrari yet). This is by far my favorite forum because of the fact that everyone here gets treated with respect, both owners and non-owners alike. On top of that, there is an endless supply of great advice from members who've been there/done that.

As for the signatures - only Rossa Subscribed members are allowed signatures, and they don't usually put the cars they own on there.

    Hope that answers your questions.

Thanks for the input guys...You answered my questions, as usual and in record time...

Seems resonable.... For me it helps add credibility to a persons posting if you can look at his signature and check out his level of experience....

Just me getting to know the site a little better...

I think you might be comparing this site to other car sites when you discuss signatures. I've been on a few of the other sites and I always kind of chuckle at the people that list every car they own as if it's some kind of badge of honor. The funniest are the ones that read:

    2003 Corvette 6 Speed
    1987 Chevy Pickup 350 Automatic
    1997 Saturn SUV Automatic

    Who cares?

Based on my experience here, even if we all had the option to post signatures, I don't think you'd see that kind of listing by the vast majority of our members. IMO, it's not what we're about.

The other thing to remember is that we have many highly valued historians posting here that are former owners from the early days.....what they drive NOW may have little meaning but posts by the Senior enthusiast really adds to the mix, IMO.

There are many familiar names to me that just seeing a comment by them will make me read thru the thread....

Then we have had crazy moments where Basil Shadlun's daughter will post on his defense, or the nephew of the San Antonio girl buried in her car...so some pretty strange stuff has been offered by 'non owners'......

You know, I was never really sure whether or not our friend RifleDriver was actually an owner, or if he just worked on other people's cars?

I can tell you this - I was here about 18 months or so before I actually got the TR, and it was time well spent figuring out what to do and which two turkey-cars not to buy.

Maybe we should have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy for those who like to keep a little private.

Both......he was Factory Trained and his personal cars were a TR and a LM002......shop owner in NorCal...

It really doesn't take long to sort the ones that post...it's the ones that DON'T, that send some pretty interesting Private Messages..

I have made some really interesting friends here over the years......;)

I keep telling Mom...."The only OTHER guy I know with three identical Ferraris is a gazillionaire in New York City!"

So far that argument isn't working! LOL!

I can always learn to drive Mr. Foyt's bulldozer, I suppose!

Yea, the Bank Girls watch me sign my name and say .."Wow"..to which I respond, "After a few million times, you get the flourish down pat.."

    Very interesting responses...

I will start by saying I am an avid car collector. I started with Porche cars and am enjoying the F Car thing... I will add many over the next few years... I will update my profile.. I was under the assumption that you could fill out a sig after you joined...

These sites are one of the things that keep me going in the car collector world. You meet wonderful people that have a ton of knowledge...

It is hard to determine on this site who knows anything... You ask a question and 1/2 the time some guy tells you to do a search... It is like some of you guy's don't want to talk about cars..Or are scared to tell anyone you have them.. It seems if someone wanted to keep there collection a secret they would use a different name.. Just like Jerry Seinfeld does...( so I have Heard )...

It helps me on other sites when I know the sacrifices that other had made for the cars.... It give people creditability when they post....

It is not an Ego thing... For me it is a credibility thing.. I am much more likely to take the advice on my 360 from someone that turns the key every day.... It would be nice too know who has one... It works really well on other sites, not sure why it would not work here...

If you want to talk to owners, check out the model-specific sections. There are some 'pre-owners' in there, but in general you'll find those kindred souls for which you're searching.

I always think that threads like this are funny.. From my own experience I know a lot more about Ferraris than a lot of owners that I personally know. As a photographer who has driven a few Ferraris and photographed hundreds, I notice a lot of details and I learn a lot from my experiences & the owners that I know. If someone starts a thread asking for opinions or input from Ferrari owners, then I wouldn't dare respond. But if there is a thread with general discussion about a car, I have plenty of facts that I could add without having to be an owner.

As Tex touched upon, there are several Ferrari experts that don't currently own Ferraris but that doesn't mean that their knowledge is any less valuable than yours...
