What plating is this?

    Can someone tell me definitively what plating this is? These are parts from a 308 GTSi brake pedal box. The photo is washed out a little due to the flash, but the parts have a dark chocolate tone.

    It looks to me to be black oxide with cosmoline, thus giving off that chocolate look.

    Cad with an extra oil bath maybe? Kind of kidding, but if I remember mine was replaced by the previous owner and was yellow Cad plated. Find the part number and see if you can get a picture of a new one.

    Rick,

    Those parts should be yellow zinc if I am not mistaken. Texas Precision Plating in Garland does it for us. If it is not yellow zinc they may be able to tell you what it is.

    Yellow Zinc? Didn't Ferrari use Yellow dichromate/chromate process back then? Gold Zinc, due to environmental issues, was used later. When restoring older cars, we'll use gold zinc today, then wipe it with brake cleaner to remove the "bling" and it looks just like the old yellow chromate.
