Shields tell me that should be a Ferrari I see. I have seen some, which were not a Ferrari. To me, shields only make sure that most will see it as a Ferrari. If one does not know it is a Ferrari, then what does it matter?

    To each his own.

This is obviously too deep for me they just look good on the car let me think maybe red is not the right color it says it might be a sports car.

Shields traditionally were used on the racing cars only to define the car as a member of the Scuderia Ferrari (first used on the Alfas). So their purpose isn't really to define the car as a Ferrari, but as a member of the racing team.

Obviously nowadays they put them on the road cars as well, where that original reason is somewhat lost. I put shields on my car because I like them optically and because it is my way of supporting the Scuderia. Plus I think the car has "earned" them by having driven on real race tracks.

Many newer Ferraris are not obviously Ferraris, so people use the shields. A 456GT could mistaken for another brand car, a F40 or Testarossa is more obviously a Ferrari. Unless you are car person, you might not notice a 360 or a 430 as a Ferrari immediately. Ferrari needs to get a current production car into a television show so the uneducated can appreciate the newer lines. I can only imagine what it would be like to have a person call your new $200,000 Ferrari some other brand like "nice Mustang", so I think some the shield purchasing is to deflect those occurances.

Shields look good in general I think; better on some cars than others. If I had an F car I'd likely have the shields too.

Well, good news. There is a new movie in the works starring Colin Farrell (I think thats the guys name... the guy from Alexander...) that features both 360 challenge cars and the new F430 Spider... so I'm sure that will raise the awareness of the current model... hehehe.

I dunno ... I suspect a person who would mistake the car for a Mustang might have that error reinforced by the appearance of a shield.

You mean, you're so superficial that you need people to KNOW its a Ferrari? I have my Enzo engine in my kit car, because I'm so nonchalant about Ferrari ownership I can hide it and it doesn't bother me.

At a dealer talking to a guy that had owned a slew of exotics of the years, me looking to get my first ferrari. We were chatting about different models and expenses and whatnot. He said something I don't think I will forget: If you are buying the car to impress your friends and neighbors, you are making a big mistake. If you are buying it because you love it, you will never regret it for a second.

Wish I could remember his name, very nice guy.

Personally, I like the shields, and that's why I want 'em.

Along the same lines, I looked at a silver car and the wife didn't want it. "It doesn't look like a Ferrari!". She's not really into cars, so she wants to be sure everyone knows what it is!

Of course she did mistake my friend's red 328 for a mustang the very same week he bought it (it was a big to do around town, not sure how she could forget...). Not sure exactly why I ask her opinon about the car anymore. Must be love.

Let me see if I got it right. They won't recognize the car as a Ferrari but they see the shield and know right away what IT means.

    OK.

Personally I would prefer people thought it was a Mustang.

I find Barts posts much more interesting and informative than posts about clever liscense plates, or what you do for a living. Post on Bart, I too like a good libation and the keyboard.
