With the purchase of my '79 GTS I got an extra set of 14" wheels. Two of the wheels are gold and the other pair are silver. The two silver wheels are pitted pretty badly and need to be refinished. The golds are in excellent condition IIRC. The wheels do have some decent tires, but I think that I will be cannibalizing these as the current tires on the car are on their last legs.

Tyring to get some help from you guys as to what to do with these wheels.

    - I could sell them all 'as is'. The easiest and simplest way to go. Probably my preferable option just not sure how much interest level there is, and ultimately how much I would get, for some mismatching wheels.

    - Split them up and sell individually. Maybe get some more money out of them this way, but my buddy that has them stored up for me would prefer to get them all out of his hair at once.

-Refinish the wheels ultimately ending up with an up to par matching set, then resell. Just not sure if I would recoup my money are not.

-Refinish the silver wheels gold and put on my black GTS. Could be a cool look, and then I could sell the excellent condition wheels on the car.

-Maybe somebody out there is looking to go back original with their car and wants to work on a partial trade towards some 16"ers? Doesn't hurt to ask.

The most important theme here is trying to get a read for the value of these pieces. If anybody has some interest or some ideas out there lay them on me. I even wouldn't mind a partial trade towards some aftermarket 16"ers. Just as long as they are 'period correct'

    Thanks,
    Tom

If I had a second set I would refinish them and mount them on the wall (without tires) of my garage about head high next to the car. Run a glass shelf over the top of the 4 wheels and display some stuff like models of Ferrari cars or other car related things. They would add some accent to the garage and if you ever needed them they are there. Just my 2cents. Joe

Post em on Ebay w/ no reserve. In 7 days they'll be gone and you'll have some cash. Whatever they sell for is pretty much fair market value.

Put them on EBAy one at a time for people looking for a spare. Doesn't matter the condition of the tire or the rim, unless it is a show car. Probably worth $75-$125 each for spares for GT4's and GTB(S)

Unless you need the money and space I would stow them - I'm sure they'll be a 14" renaissance in years to come.

    These are magnesium wheels, correct?

If so, build a large bonfire and put a wheel in the middle. The glow will probably put NORAD an alert for a missile launch.

    Not to likely......

I've bought 'single' wheels at $65 each.

I'll pay $500 for a nice set of four....or five actually makes a set, full size spare..

I'd say you are closer to the $65 number, as refinishing runs $129 each here at Wheels America.

I'd be concerned if they are even a "set"? Do the casting stamps match? Manufacturer?
    14" x 6.5" or 14" x 7.5"????

It sounds more like a "herd of orphan wheels", but I have Cromodora AND Campagnolo sets, so I'm interested, if it'll help.

I have to special order Goodyear/FULDAS from Germany to get the proper V rated 14" tires, not too fun!

Eventually they'll transition to the Vintage Racing line....

It's a street wheel, so aluminum alloy, the 'mags' you see burn were racing wheels....

I'd hold onto them. Today, they are worth very little, but I think they will be of some value in the future. The 308 will go up in value in the future, that is guaranteed. And when it does, the ones with the most value will be the most original ones. 16 inch wheels are fine, but really are out of place on the early cars, as they weren't even available back then.

The "correct" look will be back in style, at least for the collector quality versions of the car.

I am keeping my 14X7.5's Cromadoras after new 17" wheels go on.

I am considering having them chemically stripped and powder coated by a local place that does a fair amount of wheel restoration, cost is about $250 or so for a set of four.

Only thing is, mine are so oxidized, I am not sure what exact silver color and gloss originally came on the wheel to have duplicated.

I just sold a matched/original set of four 14s (cromodoras) on ebay that were powder coated and had a set of nearly new Pirellis - they went for about $1,000 which was the same cost as the powder coating and new tires. At least they're not cluttering up my garage anymore....

    Do NOT do this......

There's a Ferrari Tech Bulletin on the proper procedure, and that's "Not it".......

It's a complicated priming procedure, but the silver finish is very basic, no clear coat...

Powder coating them improperly will FOR SURE render unhappy results.....

Stripping them "all the way" will also probably ruin them.......

Unless the Tech Bulletin is followed......in Napolis' P3/4 thread he does a big batch of wheels correctly......

Those were also the more volatile alloys......
